Fully Funded MSc Opportunity | Data‑Driven Food Systems & Postharvest Quality (Canada)
We are recruiting a motivated MSc student to join the Department of Food Science, Ontario Agricultural College (OAC), University of Guelph, one of Canada’s leading centres for food research and innovation.
Project focus:
This MSc project will develop a generalizable, data‑driven virtual fruit population model to capture biological, environmental, and management‑driven variability in fruit quality and nutrition. The research will generate large‑scale synthetic datasets to improve prediction of postharvest quality, shelf life, nutrient retention, and downstream supply‑chain performance. The work contributes to a broader digital twin framework linking production, processing, packaging, retailing, and consumption with quality and nutritional outcomes.
You will gain experience in:
• Food systems and postharvest quality modelling
• Statistical analysis and machine learning
• Virtual population and digital twin approaches
• Interdisciplinary research spanning food science, agriculture, and nutrition
Who should apply:
• Bachelor’s degree in food science, data science, agricultural or environmental science, engineering, or a related field
• Interest in data‑driven modelling and agri‑food systems
• Experience with Python, MATLAB, or R is an asset
• Strong communication skills and motivation for interdisciplinary research
What’s offered:
• Fully funded MSc position (2 years)
• Access to advanced computational tools and interdisciplinary datasets
• Collaborative research with academic and industry partners in Canada and Switzerland
• Opportunities to publish research and present at international conferences
