As we pause to reflect on the national crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Sprit people across Canada, we honour those lost and stand with the families and communities who carry this grief.

At Nukik Corporation, we are committed to supporting safe, strong communities and stand with communities working every day to end this violence.

Today is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people. On Red Dress Day, I am thinking of the families and communities who are living with the loss of loved ones, and those who continue to search for those who are still missing.

We honour their lives, their stories, and their loved ones. We also recognize the strength and resilience of families and communities who continue to advocate for justice, healing, and change.

"The nation-building Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link is Inuit-led, community-driven, and grounded in partnerships. We thank Minister Rebecca Chartrand and CanNor for their ongoing partnership on this vital infrastructure project that will power a more secure north for us all."

Members of the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Rangers camped at the Canadian Armed Forces Barracks in Rankin Inlet as part of Operation Nanook. These photos capture a moment in a much larger journey, from the Yukon-Alaska border across the North and through the Kivalliq, on the way to Churchill.

Their presence reflects a growing recognition of Nunavut’s strategic importance to Canada, from sovereignty and security to infrastructure and connectivity. Recent investments in northern defence, including for the Canadian NORAD Region (CANR) Forward Operating Location (FOL) in Rankin Inlet will expand capabilities, and point to a North that is increasingly central to Canada’s future.

At Nukik, we see this firsthand. Through the Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link, Inuit are taking the lead on nation-building infrastructure that will deliver clean energy and high-speed connectivity to the region, helping strengthen communities and support long-term development and advance sovereignty goals.

We are proud to see this growing momentum across the North, and we thank the Canadian Armed Forces for their commitment and service.
