I was asked by the WCFA to make a thank you gift for for her work on the 2025 WCFA mega clinic which was held in Olds Alberta. Madeline is a foce within the industry. From her work as an instructor for the Farrier program at Olds College to her work with a number of clinics and competitions, she has invested countless hours in moving the industry and training standard forward. I have had the pleasure to work with Madeline on a number of occasions and she is one of my favorite humans.

This mini sledge came in at 4.35 lbs prior to hanging. The body is solid wrought with forge welded 1045 faces and it sports Madiline's Good Fortune Farriery shop logo. The 22" handle is curly maple which was dyed purple to make the fingered grain pop. The sledge can be swung single handed while the longer handle can accomodate both hands for a little extra power.

This piece was an absolute blast to forge and I am happy it is going to a most deserving home.

I had an amazing weekend on the West coast at the WCFA fall conference. A huge thank you to all of the organizers, volunteers, clinicians and sponsors who took time away from their day to day lives to make the event a huge success. Putting on an event of this calibre requires a huge investment of time and energy which largely happens behind the scenes. I would encourage all WCFA members to reach out to the sponsors and fall conference committee members and thank them for their support and hard work.

I am excited to have the opportunity to work with the 2025/2026 executive and the membership to make the upcoming year engaging, informative and fun. I have said many time that this industry is second to none when it come to fostering a culture of support and continued learning and I will work in my capacity as VP hard to ensure that that continues.

I mixed things up this year and swapped hammers for buckles for the Blacksmith World Championships prizes. is celebrating their 50th year and is again playing host to . The event will see 50 of the world's best farriers representing 16 countries compete to take home top prize and the title of World Champion.

The World Champion and the competitor with the highest scored shod foot will be taking home buckles ( along with a number of other prizes). The third buckle will be awarded to the winner of the Lance Sloman memorial anvil throw. Lance was a pillar in the farrier industry and at Spruce Meadows. This competition and award is a small way to remember Lance's personal and professional contributions to the industry.

The buckles themselves are stacked wrought iron with forge welded wrought hardware. They measure 5" x 3 3/8" and have some heft so wearing them will not be for the faint of heart. Just like the previous 2 years, these pieces are a collaboration between myself and with . Tass is one of the best in the laser engraving industry, and it shows with the design and ex*****on of these pieces.

I hope all of the competitors have safe travels and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone out at Spruce.
