Problem Projects Welcome.

Not every project is straightforward,
and that’s exactly where I work best.

This play structure is a good example. Built in 2024 for a daycare, it functions as both a play structure and a required fire escape for a basement level space. It’s custom, code driven, and designed to solve more than one problem at once.

Sitka Carpentry Services solves complex residential and commercial projects that require planning, sequencing, and custom solutions, not shortcuts.

Most people don’t think about what goes into a commercial dog wash, until they see one done right.

This dog wash & grooming bay in White City was designed and built with durability, hygiene, and daily use in mind.

Sitka Carpentry Services handled this project from plywood installation, trade organizing, and FRP panel installation, construction of the custom raised dog wash bay.

FRP wall panels were installed throughout for cleanability and long-term performance, with careful attention to transitions, edges, and water-exposed areas before final finishes went in.

Commercial interiors demand a different approach than residential work. Materials, water management, transitions, and future wear all matter, and a lot of planning happens long before the first panel goes on the wall.

Final paint is going down this sometime by the owner, follow along to see the finished space.

Built at the the lake, this sunroom was designed to feel grounded, open, and timeless.

The site presented real challenges a hillside view, an existing deck with structural issues, and a foundation made up of cobblestone and concrete. The existing deck was carefully reworked, a new beam reinforced, and tied together to create a solid base that met code while preserving the natural flow of the space.

Roof slope, headroom, and structure were kept in consideration to keep the room balanced, feeling bright and spacious without compromising strength. Built using treated lumber, Douglas fir, 6×6 timbers, bug screens, a fitted door, and a durable metal roof, all chosen for longevity in a demanding environment.

Inside, the original siding was removed from the house and replaced with pine shiplap to match the exterior partitions. The homeowner will complete the space with their own flooring and finish.

When a “simple demo” isn’t simple.

What was originally planned as a straightforward drywall removal to expose exterior foundation walls quickly turned into a much larger scope once the structure was opened up.

Behind finished surfaces, we uncovered:
• Evidence of past pest activity
• Areas of mold growth
• Hidden deficiencies beneath an old floating subfloor
• Hidden electrical deficiencies

A full basement gut was required to:
• Remove contaminated materials
• Perform proper sanitation and cleaning
• Eliminate mold at the source
• Expose the structure fully for inspection
•Work around and keep the boiler system in tact

The space is now stripped clean, sanitized, and safe, and ready for the next step engineering review and design for structural bracing.

This is exactly why proper demolition, documentation, and transparency matter. You don’t know what you’re working with until the walls come open, and when issues are found, the right call is to address them properly, not cover them back up.

Built to last means doing it right, even when the job changes.

Out with the old…

This lakeside shed was long past its final season, dual-sheeted walls, Douglas Fir structure, decades of rot, and a demolition path that meant hauling every piece up a hill. A tough teardown, but a satisfying one.

Once the old structure was cleared, a newly built and assembled shed kit took its place, giving the homeowners a solid, safe space that fits the landscape and will serve them for years ahead. They’ll finish the exterior trim paint next summer.

Every job is different. Every site has its challenges.
But building with respect for the property, the trees, and the environment, that’s the Sitka way.

This garage started as an idea for a drawing, a vision for a clean, heated space to store and protect hundreds of books.

Sitka Carpentry Services handled the full process: design, permits, survey layout, construction and trade coordination. Built, organized with care, and built for a specific purpose, climate-stable storage and long-term durability.

Driveway and landscaping will follow in the spring, completing another project built to last.

Building isn’t just what you see, it’s what you never want to worry about, what protects your home the most.
Attic systems are one of the most critical, and often overlooked, parts of a build. Proper ventilation, air sealing, and insulation depth are what keep a space energy-efficient, dry, and healthy for decades.

Before insulation goes in, a true professional ensures:
• Air intake and roof exhaust ventilation are balanced
• Poly and penetrations are sealed tight to prevent moisture movement
• Attic baffles are installed correctly for consistent airflow
• Electrical, exhausts, and framing clearances are properly addressed
• Insulation depth meets National Building Code energy standards

This attic, on one of our garage builds, was prepped and inspected before being insulated to R-40+, ready to perform through Saskatchewan winters.

Shoutout goes to Ultimate Insulation for their diligence and professionalism on this one. Always great working with trades who value doing things right, taking time to assess conditions, and ensuring a long-term result.

Turning unused space into something functional.

This project transformed a bedroom closet into a fully accessible kitchen pantry, clean, solid shelving, and a layout that works.

The homeowner chose to handle the barn door install and floor patching themselves, keeping it a true collaboration.

Moisture has a way of finding weaknesses.
These basement windows were framed with MDF jambs, once condensation and air movement got behind, the swelling and rot began.

The vapour barrier was corrected and replaced the MDF with PVC jambs, moisture resistant and worry free.
