Please join us in welcoming Kiara Ottenbreit to the Driftstone team!

Kiara recently completed her Bachelor of Commerce degree in Marketing with Edwards School of Business and joins us as our new Marketing & Business Coordinator.

Kiara will support our marketing presence, proposal development, BD initiatives & leadership team coordination.

Outside of work, Kiara enjoys spending time outdoors, pontoon boat days, and hanging out with her pup.

We're excited to have Kiara on board and look forward to the energy and perspective she'll bring to the team!

The 2025 National Model Codes were published December 22, 2025 — bringing significant updates to accessibility, energy efficiency, fire & life safety, and structural design. 🏗️

Adoption isn’t necessarily automatic - provincial and territorial jurisdictions decide when they take effect and what changes apply. 🗺️
For most new projects, nothing changes yet unless they are under federal jurisdiction.

Saskatchewan proposes to adopt the 2025 National Model Codes on Jan 1, 2027. Typically this means permit applications submitted prior to Jan 1, 2027 will fall under the 2020 codes. However, if you have a project that may be impacted, check with your local building official.

Proud moment — our own Ty Tweidt contributed to the 2025 codes and is helping shape the 2030 editions. 🇨🇦

Questions about what this means for your project? Let’s talk.

As 2025 comes to a close, we want to take a moment to thank our team, our clients, and our industry partners for being a part of Driftstone Consulting’s journey.

This year brought change, challenge, and growth.  Through it all, we’ve been reminded of the importance of resilience, collaboration, and the relationships that we build. In our darkest hour, the loss of one of our own, the industry really showed up to support us.  For that, we will forever be grateful.

2025 brought many new faces – both team members and clients.  We are proud of what we’ve accomplished together and we are excited for what lies ahead.  In 2026, we look forward to continuing to expand our presence and deliver exceptional value to our clients across Canada.

The holiday season is a time for reflection and gratitude, and we are deeply thankful to our team, our clients, and our industry partners for their trust and partnership.  Here’s to a new year filled with opportunity, growth, and shared success.

Wishing everyone a great holiday season and happy new year!

As a woman-led company, December 6 is a day that resonates deeply with us. Our industry has made meaningful progress toward gender equality, yet recent events remind us that this progress is fragile.

When women are told their success is a quota, not a result of merit. When victims’ voices are drowned out by those accused. When another woman is murdered for doing her job. These headlines are not as removed from our society as we’d like to think.

At Driftstone Consulting, we refuse to be complacent. Diversity is not a checkbox. Belonging is not optional. Equity is not negotiable. We will continue to advocate for equity for women and for all underrepresented voices in Canadian engineering.

Driftstone Consulting was proudly represented at ACEC’s Small Firm Forum in Montréal earlier this month. It was an energizing opportunity to connect with engineering leaders from across the country and dive into the shared challenges and opportunities shaping the future of our industry.

The passion, collaboration, and genuine care in the room made it clear: small firms aren’t just keeping pace—we’re driving change.

A special shout-out to Katelyn Sebastian, P.Eng., PMP, for contributing her voice and perspective among such an inspiring group of peers. The future is bright for small engineering firms, and we’re excited to be part of the momentum.

🌟 Today is Women’s Entrepreneurship Day and We’re Celebrating our Leader, Katelyn Sebastian 🌟

Today, on Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, we’re proud to recognize our leader who embodies exactly what this day is all about: Katelyn Sebastian, Owner and President of Driftstone Consulting Inc.

Katelyn’s journey as an entrepreneur is one built on determination, creativity, and a commitment to doing things differently. What began as her vision for a people-focused, solutions-driven engineering firm has grown into a multi-provincial consultancy serving communities across Western and Northern Canada.

She didn’t follow a traditional path, she built her own.
Growing Driftstone while raising a family, navigating industry challenges, and expanding into new service areas has taken resilience and bold leadership. Along the way, she’s championed collaboration, elevated local talent, and created opportunities for women in a field where they are still underrepresented.

Because of her drive, Driftstone now delivers structural engineering, project management, code consulting, and residential design with the kind of integrity and care that clients remember.

Today, and every day, we celebrate women like Katelyn who build, lead, design, and push boundaries. Driftstone wouldn’t be what it is without her courage to start, and her determination to keep growing.

→ Here’s to powerful stories, big ideas, and the
women who turn them into reality.
→ Here’s to the entrepreneurs shaping the future.
→ Here’s to the women leading the way.

Happy Women’s Entrepreneurship Day. 💜
