This backyard suite is designed as an Additional Residential Unit (ARU), also commonly referred to as an ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit), Secondary Suite, or Garden Suite. These types of projects are increasingly popular across Toronto and Ontario for creating rental income, supporting multi-generational living, and maximizing the use of residential properties within zoning regulations.

Planning a home addition, larger deck, garage, garden suite, cabana, or other improvement to your property? or even a new building !

Before a building permit can be issued, your project must comply with the City's zoning by-law. Zoning regulations control matters such as building setbacks, height, lot coverage, floor area, parking requirements, and the location of structures on a property.

When a proposed project does not fully comply with one or more zoning requirements, a Minor Variance application may be required. These applications are reviewed by the Committee of Adjustment, an independent municipal body that has the authority to approve relief from specific zoning regulations.
