The Ram 5500 crane truck is roadworthy! The truck returned last Friday from with the new Palfinger knuckle-crane. Thanks Brandon for transferring the truck home safely!
Over the weekend I installed the gooseneck and flatdeck with minor adjustments since crane install before final wiring, fuel and finishing details. Everything fits well and she’s ready for plating this week. I have a few more things to do(running boards, protective coatings, more work lights, etc.) but at least she can work in the meantime.
I haven’t forgotten about her walkthrough video, just have to finish loading her up and get more familiar with this crane!

Here’s a creative handrail and stair package installed in Trail. Some cantilevered stair treads and a fun design make this an eye-catcher. We are lucky to have such creative and wonderful customers!

Finished off the flatdeck last week and shipped the truck off to to have the knuckle crane installed. Now it’s time to scheme on some serious running boards/ladder and hopefully the truck comes home next week to get this deck installed! Once that happens I’ll pass along all the weights and a walkthrough video before she gets to work!

Recent flatdeck progress:
-slipped in the final checkerplate deck sheet
-added the rear panel
-installed the front panel
-added stake pockets and rub rails
-welded out the deck as possible(only a couple deck welds left!)
-blended the TIG welded cabinet frames
-installed and trimmed out the cabinets
-installed the side steps(still need the bumpers)
-started installing lights where hot work is complete
There are a dozen small details left but we are definitely on the home stretch with this build!
Next we have to modify the trailer to fit on this truck…

The flatdeck for the truck has a headache rack! My capable homey Jeff turned a winch roller and pin from the McMaster bushing order I placed…(using fusion has some interesting purchasing opportunities). Now that the winch roller and pin are captured in the rack things are tacked and accessible light wiring is completed. The cabinets have been installed and the checker plate deck is being strapped/clamped/persuaded into place… and welded as suitable!
…meanwhile the truck is headed to next week for the knuckle boom install, giving me a chance to finish the deck build and load up for a busy spring of installs!

Got the deck welded out as far as possible… Cabinet door frames and shelves are in, cross members and frame rails are welded up. Wheel wells, stair pockets, winch box and cabinets are zipped up as well. Now the headache rack is under construction and we’re onto checker plate and bumper plate…
…truck heads out Thursday to to get the knuckle boom crane installed and commissioned. I’ll have the deck ready for install upon her return!

Cabinet backs and deck sides formed and installed on the flatdeck. Really starting to take shape now!

The flatdeck project is taking shape! Frame clips, frame rail components and crossmembers are tacked together… cabinets next!

Got the wheel wells and winch box formed and tacked up for the flatdeck. Now they’re ready to fab into the deck once the frame rails are formed. Should start to see some good visual productivity here shortly as things take shape!
