Outreach Robotics

Outreach Robotics Experts in aerial robotics and UAV canopy sampling. Currently assisting field scientists access the previously "unreachable".

DeLeaves design and produce robotic devices there to perform aerial tasks in contact with the environment. Experts in aerial robotics, the team at DeLeaves has commercialized the first aerial tree sampling tool in 2020, which enables field scientists to reach previously unreachable vegetation samples.

Glad to share this new collaboration!

Draganfly is proud to collaborate with Outreach Robotics to advance environmental research and conservation through innovative UAV technology.

By integrating the DeLeaves ™ aerial sampling system with Draganfly’s Commander 3XL UAV, researchers can safely and efficiently collect plant material and canopy samples from previously inaccessible areas, reducing environmental impact and increasing data accuracy.

This partnership empowers scientists and environmental organizations to accelerate biodiversity studies, forest health monitoring, and climate research with precision and sustainability in mind.

Together, we’re not just observing nature, we’re helping to protect it.

We had the pleasure of hosting the team from Flash Forest, a truly innovative Canadian company leading the way in reforestation.

It was inspiring to discuss with Chris Ireland and Kevin Payton-Stewart how they're scaling up their efforts using drones to restore ecosystems. The conversation around the challenges they've overcome with cutting-edge robotics was both insightful and motivating.

Hats off to Flash Forest for their groundbreaking work. We're looking forward to helping each other in the future.

📣HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT🎉: Our team won the Grand Prize in the , a 5-year and $10M competition to develop novel technologies that autonomously and rapidly survey rainforest biodiversity.

During the Finals, Outreach Robotics successfully deployed and retrieved by drone 10 Limelight canopy rafts, collectively including bioacoustics arrays of 90 microphones, 5 autonomous camera systems, 270 LED lights, 10 GPS recorders, 10 inertial measurement units, 10 Iridium satellite communication systems, and 5 air sampling systems along with a water eDNA filtering system and a surface eDNA probe.

This win was *hugely validating* of our ideas, our approach, and the insane amount of work that we and the rest of the team Limelight Rainforest have put into developing these tools.

Special thanks to Thomas Walla for putting his trust in our ideas, Johanna Varner for making this impossible report delivery, our Quebec fellows Pr. Francois Grondin from the Université de Sherbrooke and Pr. Étienne Laliberté from the Université de Montréal, and thanks to Createk and Institut interdisciplinaire d'innovation technologique - 3IT - USherbrooke for providing us a unique innovative ecosystem. What a ride!

We're pleased to share that our latest customer, Staatsbetrieb Sachsenforst in Germany, has completed their first flight tests using the DeLeaves drone-based tree sampling technology. 🎯

Dr. Michael Körner from Staatsbetrieb Sachsenforst shared his thoughts:
"We have already tested the DeLeaves sampling tool and are very satisfied with the technology."

They will use the DeLeaves to harvest cone samples to analyze the seed fertility – crucial to predict the number of seeds that can be harvested from a seed plantation🌱

Check out their first collections in action! 🔥

Next week, XPRIZE will announce the winner of the competition, in conjunction with the G20 summit in Rio! What a wild ride the last few years have been, from our first time flying the into the canopy in Singapore to the successful deployment of all our data streams in Brazil this summer. So excited to continue scaling biodiversity assessment through robotics! Go team
