Here in Canada most elementary and junior high schools have a projector screen system. The goal with installing these systems is to provide for a large scale audio/visual screen experience for students and parents alike at assemblies.

So many of us have experienced this: the students and their parents have gathered for an assembly in the gymnasium and the Grade 6 grad slideshow begins. At least one row of lights stays on, and everyone tries their best to watch. It takes a bit for the staff to set up. Once the video starts running, the colours are faded out and you can just make out the smiles of the students in the pictures. Some folks can’t see the images on the screen at all due to where they are sitting – too far to the side or directly under the lights, and just get glimpses of movement. Folks sigh in relief when it’s announced that everyone can get a copy or link to the video online. This way the viewers will be able to fully see the slideshow, on their own small screens at home.

In a school gymnasium, that last row of lights cannot be turned off due to safety regulations – that gym has to remain lit enough to aid with exiting in case of emergency. What this results in is the projector screen is not being used to it’s optimum performance because the overhead lights fade out the strength of the projected image. Projection screens perform best under fully dark conditions, and most of us experience them in a partially lit situation.

This is where upgrading your school’s audio/visual displays to LED is of a great benefit to your students and their parents. LED video/media walls are designed to be clearly visible in fully lit situations, provide for wide viewing angles and the colour does not shift when viewed on an angle.

Imagine again the gymnasium is full of students and their parents and the Grade 6 Grad slideshow is running on the school’s new LED giant video screen. Everyone is happily seeing – really seeing – the full slideshow in full bright colour and crisp image, and it doesn’t matter where in the room that they are sitting because the images were clear from every angle. Everyone is able to talk about their favourite pictures and videos from the presentation and the whole energy of the grad stays happy.

And then after the Grad assembly is done, the LED screen is set up to display the scoreboard for the basketball tournament that the school is hosting that evening.

With LED video walls now being the standard for modern advertising, it is a natural extension to use them for artistic and entertainment purposes. The flexibility in the design of LED video walls allows for artistic expression and creative applications without sacrificing image experience.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻?

Video walls are created by tiling multiple screens together. This is because each screen can only be made so large – so to go larger we combine multiple screens together.

Traditionally these larger screens were created using narrow bezel displays, resulting in the seams between each section of screens that you see on lots of video walls out there. The goal is to cover a large area with screens so an image or video can be shown in a larger format.

With direct view LED video screens – LED panels are wired together to make all those individual modules come together as one large screen, without the seams. The wires connect each of the screens to a command control centre which manages the digital and video content to be displayed.
