A brief dusty smell when you first turn on your furnace? Normal.
A lingering, electrical, or chemical smell? Not normal.
Burning smells can indicate:
• Dust buildup on heat exchangers (harmless but annoying)
• Electrical problems (dangerous)
• Cracked heat exchanger (carbon monoxide risk)
• Clogged filters causing overheating
If the smell doesn't go away after 20–30 minutes, don't ignore it.
March is the perfect time to investigate winter concerns before you forget about them.
Book an inspection if you noticed odd smells this season.
