WOOD FACT 🌲 Not all bark behaves the same way.

A Douglas-fir’s thick, deeply furrowed bark is very different from the thinner, scaly bark of spruce or the fibrous bark of western red cedar.

Species isn’t the only factor. Season, moisture content, tree age and storage conditions can all influence the characteristics of bark and how easily it separates from the wood.

Even logs of the same species can behave differently depending on when they were harvested and how they’ve been stored.
