It feels fitting that falls in the middle of , because when it comes to living well with arthritis, OTs are some of the best allies around. 💚

With Canada's population ageing, arthritis touches more of us every year. But it isn't just a part of getting older. It can start at any point in life, even in childhood.

Kelly-Maude Amaral shares her experience through the Canadian Arthritis Patient Alliance, a national group run by people living with this disease. Her story echoes what so many Canadians go through, working with an OT to adapt their life so they can stay independent at every age.

October is Occupational Therapy Month in Canada, and we're starting it with gratitude. 🫶

Occupational therapists help people take back the things that make a day their own. Buttoning a shirt. Holding a grandchild. Returning to work after a stroke. Staying in the home they love.

Often, getting there takes the right device, like a splint that fits or a tool that makes the task possible. PolyUnity has created a custom splinting service designed with OT's, made for the patients they serve.

Today is the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation! 🪶

This day was created in direct response to Call to Action 80 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, calling for a federal statutory day of commemoration to honour Survivors of residential schools.

The first step toward reconciliation is facing the truth. Canada’s history includes painful chapters of cultural genocide, forced assimilation, and the silencing of Indigenous languages and traditions. Publicly remembering and acknowledging this history is essential to reconciliation.

We teleported a splint across Canada. (Well, almost.) 🇨🇦

As PolyUnity co-founder and Chief Medical Officer, Stephen Ryan, loves to put it: custom splinting with 3D printing is a bit like teleporting.

The patient is measured in B.C., the splint is designed in Newfoundland & Labrador, and the file travels across the country to be printed back in B.C.

Steve joined Jill Bennett on 730 CKNW to talk about how PolyUnity is working with clinicians at Vancouver Coastal Health to bring patient-specific devices closer to the communities that need them.

That idea came up again and again at in Montréal last week, where techNL companies showed up in a big way.

Today we are proud to announce that we are collaborating with Vancouver Coastal Health, the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, and their team of passionate clinicians to launch a splinting solution focused on improving health outcomes for Canadians. 🇨🇦

“This innovative process is the first-of-its-kind in North America, and it’s already saving time for health care providers and their patients. We’re committed to making it easier for people to get the right care at the right time, close to home. That’s why we’re continuing to work with occupational therapists, our partners in PolyUnity and the Vancouver Health Authority to expand this process throughout the region.” said Ravi Kahlon, BC Minister of Health.

This is a story of what happens when passionate clinicians meet Canadian technology.

PolyUnity is driven by the fact that the best solutions live in the minds of healthcare workers. They have a front row seat to the problems, and therefore should be the source of the solutions.💡

A year ago a team at Vancouver Coastal Health reached out to leverage our experience with 3D printing in healthcare to build a custom splinting workflow.

There was an obvious need to improve access to splinting services for patients and allow providers, regardless of experience, to produce consistent, high-quality splints.

3D printing allows this splinting process to serve urban, rural and remote areas. This fabrication style provides greater flexibility in design and frees up clinician time, while reducing material waste and emissions through point-of-care production.

Many benefit plans don't cover it, or cover too little to finish a course of care.
