Working together with Ilya Galadza, and Father Tom of Saint Elias Ukrainian Catholic Church, I had the pleasure of making some modifications to these Deacon doors which hang on the iconstas, and installed two beautiful hand painted icons from our parishes Ukrainan Iconographer.
These modifications were done in anticipation of St Elias' 50th Anniversary milestone!
One icon is of Saint Romanos and the other is of Saint Ephraim. Both these Saints were themselves Deacons so you can see them both depicted with censers which burn tree resin.
These resins are burned to hallow the physical space of the church, and to engage the senses and draw the whole person into the act of worship.
Throughout the Divine Liturgy, and Vespers, the Deacons, alter servers, and candle bearers, will use these doors to enter and exit the sanctuary.
The doors are made using Rift Sawn Douglas fir.
