There’s a long-standing tradition behind this City Centre 5 project update. 🏗️

At the start of each City Centre development, representatives from the project’s leadership team step into the excavation for a photo together. These “hole shots” are framed in our hallways, capturing the people and partnerships behind each building’s earliest stages.

This time, leaders from Lark Group, ICT Group and Western Community College came together in the City Centre 5 excavation—the future home of Surrey’s first purpose-built student housing development.

It’s an exciting milestone for City Centre 5—and another memorable “hole shot” to add to the collection.

Downtown Surrey is rapidly emerging as one of Canada's leading centres for healthcare, education, technology, and innovation—and we're proud to be helping shape that growth.

As highlighted in our recent CKNW radio feature with the Downtown Surrey BIA, the Health & Technology District continues to evolve. Alongside the recent opening of Homewood Suites by Hilton Surrey, construction is now underway on City Centre 5. The partnership between Lark Group, Western Community College and ICT Group will deliver Surrey's first purpose-built student housing residence, bringing 810 student beds to the District and further strengthening Surrey's growing post-secondary community.

Together, these investments are creating a connected community where people can live, learn, work, and access the medical services they need—all in one place.

🎙️ Airing on CKNW through 2026.

Today’s Mayor’s Forum on Health and Innovation brought together leaders from healthcare, life sciences, research, education, and industry to explore Surrey’s growing role in shaping the future of health.

Representing the Health and Technology District, Lark Group CEO Kirk Fisher joined the panel discussion, Building a Health Innovation Ecosystem, sharing how the Fisher family’s vision helped establish the District and how it has evolved into a thriving ecosystem where organizations come together to solve real-world challenges, advance new ideas, and create opportunities for growth.

A highlight of the event was the keynote from Dr. Ryan D’Arcy, Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of NeuroCatch®, who challenged attendees to think not just about “Why Surrey?” but “How can you get connected with Surrey?” His message summarized the day perfectly: innovation happens when people, organizations, and ideas connect with purpose.

It was inspiring to hear from so many leaders and changemakers choosing Surrey as a place to grow, innovate, build partnerships, tackle healthcare challenges, and scale with impact.

Thank you to the City of Surrey for bringing together such a diverse group of innovators, leaders, and organizations to showcase the incredible momentum shaping our city and region.

A milestone moment for the Health & Technology District — celebrating the Grand Opening of Homewood Suites by Hilton, Surrey.

We were honoured to welcome Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, who led the official ribbon cutting ceremony, alongside City of Surrey Councillors Linda Annis, Mike Bose, and Rob Stutt; Jeff Curry, Senior Director of Development at Hilton Canada; Kirk Fisher, CEO of Lark Group; and Haris Bokhari, General Manager of Homewood Suites Surrey.

More than a single opening, this reflects the continued evolution of the District. As major institutions, businesses, and new partnerships align, it is growing as a dynamic ecosystem supporting both economic activity and community building.

Homewood Suites by Hilton plays an important role in that ecosystem — with 189 thoughtfully designed studios and suites, the hotel is a proud addition to City Centre 4, strengthening a district where healthcare, education, technology, and hospitality come together.

This achievement was made possible through the collaboration and shared vision of valued partners from Aquilini Group, Lark Group, and the Homewood Suites team.

A special thank you to Stongs Market for the delicious charcuterie boards & desserts and STEMS by Stongs Market for the beautiful florals that helped bring the event to life. 🙌
