CUC is seeking an Equipment Operator to join our underground civil crew in Surrey, BC. This role will work closely with the Foreman & other construction crew members to ensure safe, efficient excavation. Employee must be able to operate & maintain equipment like excavators, backhoes, trenchers, loaders, cranes, & more.

ABOUT US

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Operate heavy machinery (e.g., excavators, loaders, forklifts)
• Conduct daily equipment inspections
• Perform basic maintenance & cleaning
• Follow all safety procedures & wear PPE
• Read & interpret site plans or blueprints
• Load, unload, & move materials safely
• Record operational data & maintenance logs
• Work in various weather conditions
• Assist with site preparation & grading
• Transport equipment between job sites
• Participate in ongoing training & certification

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
• 1 – 3 yrs of experience operating heavy machinery
• Experience with sidewalk & curb installation, forming, pouring, & finishing concrete, considered & asset
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License (Commercial driver’s license preferred).

SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Strong hand-eye coordination & spatial awareness
• Ability to operate various types of heavy machinery
• Knowledge of safety procedures & hazard recognition
• Basic mechanical & troubleshooting skills

responsible for the installation of underground electrical infrastructure, including duct banks, manholes, and conduit systems, as well as sidewalk and curb construction. The ideal candidate
will have a background in civil construction and a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency on-site.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

A minimum of 2 years’ related experience in the construction or similar industry as well as operating excavators.
Class 1 driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract.
SKILLS & ABILITIES

Experience transporting various types of equipment.
Ability to drive a dump truck, load equipment and tow trailers.
Experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., mini excavators, skid steers).
Ability to lift approximately 40 lbs. and work in a physically demanding environment.
Effective verbal communication and customer service skills.
Knowledge of the geographic area is an asset.

* Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the underground civil crew.
* Interpret construction drawings and ensure work is completed to spec and code (including BC

* Oversee trenching, conduit installation, concrete encasement, backfilling, and restoration.
* Manage the installation and finishing of sidewalks, curbs, and gutters in accordance with
municipal standards.
* Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and company safety policies.
* Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and inspectors.
* Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and crew hours.
* Conduct daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
* Travel to project sites across BC as required (including remote locations).

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
* Minimum 5 years of experience in underground civil construction, with at least 2 years in a
supervisory role.
* Proven experience with sidewalk and curb installation, including forming, pouring, and finishing
concrete.
* Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License (Class 3 or higher preferred).
* Ground Disturbance Level II certification (or willingness to obtain).

SKILLS & ABILITIES
* Experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., mini excavators, skid steers).
* Basic/ Intermediate First Aid certification.
* Strong knowledge of underground electrical infrastructure and BC Hydro/CEA standards.
* Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings and utility locates.
* Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
* Ability to work in varying weather conditions and travel as needed.
