Safety in the Manufacturing Industry Foundries Subsector

WorkSafeBC is partnering with FIOSA-MIOSA Safety Alliance of BC to present a free half-day training session designed specifically for the foundries. The session will focus on providing the leaders of your organization with tools they can use to improve safety performance in your workplace.

- Musculoskeletal injury (MSI) prevention
- Respiratory protection

We will also have an opportunity to hear and ask questions about the new National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy (NSPS). Please RSVP to confirm your spot.

Thank you to everyone that came out to the AFS Hockey Night Event last week to cheer on the Langley Rivermen! It was an exciting, high scoring affair that eventually saw the Cowichan Valley Capitals come out on top with a final score of 6 to 4. David Ashbaugh from AFS Washington also attended and promoted the upcoming 61st AFS NW Regional Conference in Seattle.

Congratulations to Ryan Johnston and Jennifer Peverelle, winners of this year's student bursaries from the AFS BC Chapter. Ryan and Jennifer have both received $500 toward their education costs.

Ryan Johnston, son of AFS member Drew Johnston, is a mechanical engineering student at the University of Victoria.

Jennifer Peverelle is a third year Materials Engineering student at the University of British Columbia.

More info on each of the winners is available in this month's newsletter.

The AFS board of directors was extremely excited about high application turn out this year and greatly appreciate the time put in by everyone. We hope that next year will attract even more applicants.
