Continuing our series introducing the women volunteers of Impala Canada’s Mine Rescue team, meet Jaimee Zoccole and Wendy Wang. 🤩
The duo, who are friends and colleagues, are both relatively new to the Mine Rescue team, and both decided to join, on part, because they wanted to be more prepared to jump in and help if an emergency occurred.
“I am particularly interested in composing myself in high stress emergencies,” said Jaimee, who is on the site services crew.
The Mine Rescue training is Wendy’s first experience with emergency response.
“The introductory course provided a wealth of knowledge and brainstorming sessions on what approaches and protocols to use. It also put us in emergency simulations with things like smoke and darkness, and scenarios needing first aid, to challenge our knowledge and reaction in an emergency,” Wendy said.
Wendy, who completed an Engineer-in-Training program at LDI and is now in a short-term planner role, said she was surprised at the amount of information and learning that Mine Rescue volunteers have to absorb.
“It’s a great honour to know that when an emergency happens, you have the skills to help the person next to you. It’s also a great responsibility. If you’re up for it, it could save someone’s life,” Wendy said.
Thank you to Jaimee and Wendy for sharing your Mine Rescue experience with us – we are lucky to have you two on the team. 💯
