Ten years ago, when AmbuEnergy began its journey in EV charging, our mission was simple: make charging accessible and help more Canadians make the switch to electric vehicles.
We offered property owners EV charging infrastructure at no upfront cost. Our philosophy was inspired by the idea, โIf you build it, they will come.โ We drove to locations in gas-powered vehicles that we believed EVs would be able to reach and serve in the years ahead.
We also encouraged property owners to offer complimentary charging to their guests. Many embraced the idea because they wanted to support cleaner transportation and help build a better future. Free charging helped reduce range anxiety and gave drivers more confidence to travel by EV.

We are now helping property owners transition from complimentary charging to a pay-per-use model that makes charging more sustainable over the long term.
One hotel owner shared an interesting perspective with us. Hotels once offered complimentary sweets, then coffee, and eventually Wi-Fi became an expected guest amenity. EV charging is following a similar path.
Hotels and businesses recognize that providing EV charging is increasingly important. But does it have to be free?
We don't expect businesses to provide free gasoline to drivers of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Similarly, EV charging can be offered as a valuable service without necessarily being complimentary. The goal is to make charging available when guests need it while managing the costs of electricity, equipment, and operations.
