🚛 We got an exciting delivery today!

Several paintings by Edward Mitchell Bannister (1828-1901) have arrived on loan from the Smithsonian American Art Museum, via PACART transportation services.

The paintings travelled from Washington D.C., transported in special art-handling trucks equipped with air ride suspension and temperature controlled cargo spaces. Maintaining a stable environment for artworks, even during transit, is an important aspect of preventative conservation, so every precaution was taken to ensure these works had a smooth journey.

You can see the paintings in person at the exhibition opening for Hidden Blackness: Edward Mitchell Bannister (1828-1901) next Friday, 24 January at 7:00 pm.

Curated by Dr. David Woods, the exhibition also includes works on loan from the New Brunswick Museum, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, as well as pieces from the private collection of Marilyn Sandford.

💃 Le titre de l’exposition fait référence à l’œuvre de Niro "500 Year Itch" [500 ans de réflexion] (présentée ici) qui défie les représentations stéréotypées des peuples autochtones à travers des stratégies de mascarade, de parodie et d’appropriation.

Il s’agit d’un commentaire sur le 500e anniversaire de la soi-disant « découverte » des Amériques de Christophe Colomb tout en usurpant une scène du film The Seven Year Itch, avec Marilyn Monroe.

🤝 Cette exposition est organisée et mise en circulation par The Art Gallery of Hamilton en association avec le Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian et avec le soutien curatorial du Musée des beaux-arts du Canada. The successful candidate will possess a pleasant telephone manner, exceptional interpersonal skills, and be customer-service oriented.

Job description:
Liaise with clients to coordinate packing and shipping of artworks
Assist logistics coordinators with estimating and coordinating ground transportation
Prepare and Complete import and export documentation for cross-border shipments
Invoice shipments upon completion
Reception and clerical duties as required

The successful candidates must:
Have the ability to meet deadlines
Have the ability to cope with changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Have well-honed organizational skills
Have flexibility for additional hours as projects dictate
Be very detail oriented
Possess sales and customer-service experience
Practice discretion with confidential information
Be punctual

Be computer literate, working in a PC environment (MS Excel, MS Word)

Assets to the position:

Freight forwarding and/or logistics experience
