Powerline on your car? This is NOT the time to “just step out.” ⚠

Stay inside and call 911 — the ground around it may be electrified.

If you must exit due to immediate danger, there’s a safe way to do it.

▶ Watch to learn how to respond.

Powerlines are often overhead — and it’s easy to underestimate how close is too close when working outdoors.

Recent insights show that only 1 in 6 Torontonians know the safe distance from overhead powerlines.

When working outdoors:

- Stay at least 3 metres away from overhead powerlines
- Keep your ladders, tools and equipment the same distance away
- Always look up before you start

Understanding safe distances can help prevent serious injuries and fatalities.

Powerlines run through Toronto’s streets, laneways and backyards — and recent insights show that half of Torontonians don’t know how far back to stay from downed powerlines.

May 11–17 is Powerline Safety Week, and we’re reminding Torontonians what to do if you see a downed powerline:

- Stay at least 10 metres back (about the length of a school bus)
- Never touch or try to move it
- Report it by calling 911

Always treat downed powerlines as live.

Morning sun, evening storm — classic Toronto. â˜€ïžđŸŒ§ïž

Toronto weather can change fast. Being prepared means having what you need at home, just in case you’re without power for up to 72 hours.

This Emergency Preparedness Week, take the 72-hour challenge and think about how your household would manage without power for up to 3 days:

✅ Do your emergency essentials make sense for the season?
✅ If you live in a condo or apartment, could you stay put if elevators are down?
✅ If you live in a house, is your basement protected during heavy rain?

An emergency kit is a good place to start. Explore our Emergency Preparedness Hub for tips, checklists and guides to help you get prepared year-round:

Celebrating our 115th birthday by looking at where we started and where we are today.

Over the past 115 years, our crews have adapted to new tools, our trucks have evolved into a more sustainable fleet and our equipment has advanced to improve safety and reliability.

While much has changed since our early days, one thing remains the same: a strong commitment to serving Toronto. This video reflects both the progress we’ve made and the people who made it possible.

Today is the — a time to pause, reflect and remember those who have lost their lives, been injured or suffered illness at work.

We honour the workers who did not come home, and we recognize the families, friends and communities whose lives are forever changed by workplace tragedy.

This day also invites us to reflect on the kind of workplace we’re continuing to build together — one where speaking up about hazards, near misses or concerns is encouraged and supported. When we listen with care and learn from moments that don’t go as planned, we make meaningful improvements.

By supporting one another and acting on what we learn, we strengthen our shared commitment to safer and healthier workplaces for everyone.
