Is Your Food Packaging Safe? 🍏 🍇

Ensuring the safety of food packaging involves more than just the materials used. It's about understanding their interaction with food products.

The FDA enforces strict guidelines to keep potential contaminants in packaging below a safe threshold, ensuring they pose no dietary risk.

Migration Testing:
This crucial test determines if contaminants can migrate from packaging to food. For example, heavy metals like copper may be present but not readily migrate into food. If a component doesn't become part of the food, it's not considered a food additive.

FDA Qualification:
Companies must prove their packaging materials don't allow harmful components to migrate into food, involving rigorous challenge testing, contaminant analysis, and validation processes.

Industry Update!

The UK government is championing the fight against plastic waste by increasing the Plastic Packaging Tax. This tax, set to rise with the Consumer Price Index, will reach £217.85 per ton by April 1, 2024, incentivizing businesses to embrace recycled plastics in their packaging. 📦

Despite its introduction in April 2022, the surge in recycled content has yet to match expectations. To gauge its impact, the government plans to assess its effectiveness by year-end. Considering escalations in the tax rate and a recycled plastic threshold. ♻️

🌊 Happy World Oceans Day!

As we take a moment to appreciate the beauty and significance of our oceans, we must also recognize the urgent need to protect them.

One of the greatest threats our oceans face is plastic pollution. Shockingly, it is projected that by 2050, the weight of plastic in our oceans will surpass that of fish.

We must take action to curb plastic pollution and achieve a sustainable future. Brands that use plastic have a vital role in preventing plastic from entering the oceans.

How can you create change?
🧴 Design recyclable products.
♻️ Incorporate recycled raw materials into your manufacturing processes.
🤝 Collaborate with other change makers.

The Ocean Cleanup is one of those change makers. They are a remarkable non-profit organization that removes plastic waste from our oceans. Their innovative technology has already successfully extracted millions of kilograms of plastic waste. However, they are not alone in this fight. Numerous other companies are also contributing to protecting our oceans.

So, let's seize this day as an opportunity to support these companies and their efforts to safeguard our oceans. 🐟

By coming together, we can make a difference and ensure our precious marine ecosystems' long-term health and vibrancy.
