RVA is proud to be part of the Highbury Avenue Expansion project for the City of St. Thomas , a key infrastructure initiative supporting growth associated with the new Volkswagen EV battery plant development.

The project includes major transportation and municipal improvements:
➡️ The Ron McNeil Line and Highbury Avenue signalized intersection was converted into a two-lane roundabout to promote free flowing traffic at the North end of St Thomas.
➡️ The T-intersection that marked the end of Highbury Avenue was replaced with a two-lane roundabout and a new section of road to optimize traffic flow to highway 3.
➡️ At the intersection of Highway 3 and Centennial Avenue, RVA installed a 3-legged roundabout connecting Highway 3 to the new corridor to Highbury Avenue. The fourth leg of the roundabout was added later by another City project.

All of these are designed to accommodate future development in the region. Shoutout to the project team, City of St. Thomas, and the project partners.

🎊We're excited to announce the opening of our new Barrie office. 🎊
This expansion strengthens RVA’s ability to support clients and communities across the region with engineering, consulting, and architectural services.

Leading our Barrie office will be Steve de Faria, who has been appointed as Regional Manager. Steve's leadership, experience, and longstanding commitment to RVA make him well-positioned to lead this next chapter of growth.

This is an exciting milestone for RVA as we continue investing in the communities we serve and building strong, lasting relationships across Ontario.

RVA's Construction Services team spends much of their time on-site, working closely with clients, contractors, and project partners to help bring projects from design to completion.

Taking a little break from the field, some of the team members came together for an evening of bowling, good food, and friendly competition. With team members often supporting projects across different locations, it was a great opportunity to reconnect and spend time together outside of work.

Opportunities like these help strengthen the connections that support collaboration and successful outcomes among teams.

That's a wrap on SMSB 2026. Thank you, BC!

Over the past few days, RVA team members had the opportunity to connect with industry leaders, partners, and clients from across British Columbia and Canada at the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) Short and Medium Span Bridges (SMSB) Conference 2026.

This year's theme, "Shaping the Future of Bridge Engineering: Low Carbon, Resilience, and Automation," highlighted priorities that align closely with our work: helping clients plan, maintain, rehabilitate, and deliver sustainable bridge infrastructure.

As we continue to grow our presence in BC, we're proud to bring the technical expertise, collaborative approach, and practical solutions needed to support critical transportation infrastructure for communities across the province.

Steve has built an impressive career over nearly four decades, serving as Associate, Senior Associate, and Principal before stepping into this new leadership role. He has led complex land development projects across Ontario, providing project management, contract administration, engineering, and advisory services.

Throughout his career, Steve has contributed to a wide range of projects, including residential and industrial subdivisions, mixed-use and high-rise developments, municipal infrastructure, parks, roads, active transportation initiatives, pumping stations, and tunnels. This breadth of experience has given him a deep understanding of the complexities and opportunities that shape growing communities.

In his new role, Steve will lead business development and operational growth initiatives for RVA's Barrie office and across Simcoe County, while continuing to provide technical expertise and leadership on land development projects.

Did you know a threatened bird species has adapted to life in our urban centres?
This spring, RVA's Project Manager of our Water group, Kaleb Mudrik, volunteered with Ontario SwiftWatch to help monitor the threatened chimney swift in downtown St. Catharines.

As traditional brick chimneys disappear, so does important habitat for this unique urban species. See details here: bit.ly/3RWDa06
