Last week, industry leaders from across the real estate, planning, and development sectors gathered at the 2026 Cascadia Regional Conference, hosted by ULI BC’s Young Leaders Group, to explore the challenges and opportunities shaping urban development across the region.

Kenny Dempsey, Project Director at Kindred Construction, joined a panel exploring how modern methods of construction, including mass timber, prefabrication, and modular design, are reshaping how projects are planned and delivered across B.C.

The conversation examined the strategic thinking behind when these construction methods make sense, the level of coordination required between design and construction teams, and the importance of industry leadership in driving innovation and challenging traditional delivery models.

It was a valuable discussion on where the industry is headed and the role collaboration and innovation will play in shaping the future of construction.

Presented by Simone Grewal, an award-winning broadcaster, writer, and producer with more than 20 years of experience in radio and television, the session focused on building confidence and strengthening communication through strategies centered on speaking with impact and owning your voice.

A recent Business in Vancouver article highlights how partnerships are becoming essential to moving projects forward in Vancouver’s increasingly complex development landscape.

Kindred Construction’s President, Bryan Reid, shares how collaboration between developers, government, and non-profits is reshaping how projects are funded and delivered. Success today isn’t just about ex*****on, it’s about early alignment across stakeholders to balance priorities, navigate complexity, and keep projects viable.

Delivering housing in B.C. now more than ever requires a coordinated, partnership-first approach from start to finish.

Our 981 Davie project welcomed another important visit this past weekend.

Hosted by Michaël Robach, Interim Executive Director of QMUNITY, the tour offered a preview of the future QMUNITY space within the development.

In attendance were the Minister for Women and Gender Equality, the Honourable Rechie Valdez; B.C.’s Attorney General, the Honourable Niki Sharma; Parliamentary Secretary for Gender Equity, Jennifer Blatherwick; and local MLA Terry Yung. All were there to support ongoing efforts to uplift the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Vancouver and across the province.

A key feature of the project is the new QMUNITY centre, a vital resource that will provide services, programs, and a safe, inclusive gathering space.

We’re proud to be part of a project that helps strengthen the community and create lasting impact.

At Kindred Construction, the strength of our work is driven by our dedicated teams who show up every day ready to learn, adapt, and support one another. David Yan embodies this mindset through his steady, team-first approach and commitment to continuous growth.

Now approaching 10 years with Kindred, David reflects on his journey as one shaped by opportunity, mentorship, and a willingness to step up. As Project Coordinator, David plays a key role in keeping projects running smoothly. He supports day-to-day operations both in the office and on site, stepping in wherever needed to keep projects on track and moving toward successful completion.

Over the years, he’s developed a strong sense of ownership in his work and credits much of his growth to the people around him, emphasizing the importance of asking questions and staying open to learning.

What David enjoys most about his role is the variety. No two days are the same, and the constant opportunity to learn and connect with new people keeps the work engaging and rewarding.

Outside of work, David values time with his family and staying active. He enjoys kayaking and playing a variety of sports, and brings a unique background as a former anti-tank gunner during his military training in Singapore.

We’re grateful for the positive impact David brings to every project and team he’s part of.

420 Downie Street is gaining recognition, recently featured in the Revelstoke Review for its role in delivering much-needed housing in Revelstoke, B.C., and contributing to the province’s broader push to increase housing supply in smaller communities.

For Kindred, this project represents more than housing. It highlights how strong partnerships between developers, municipalities, and builders can unlock opportunities on underutilized land and support long-term community growth.

The Kindred team has begun mobilizing on site, with a groundbreaking ceremony planned for May 2026 and foundation work expected to follow this summer.
