For more than 13 years, Arezo has worked in some of Vancouver’s largest districts as a leading Crime Analyst with the Vancouver Police Department (VPD). During this time, she has shown a strong ability to understand the safety issues affecting her community. The exposure provided her insight into crime data analytics, revealing crime patterns that required development of data-driven solutions. In one of her roles, Arezo was the sole analyst responsible for assessing all major violent crime incidents – including serious robberies and assaults - in the City of Vancouver. For her efforts, she has received 3 Chief Commendations from the VPD; Arezo is one of few civilians earning this recognition.
Arezo believes in the importance and growth of Vancouver’s business community. She has collaborated with several Business Improvement Associations (BIA) and is a strong advocate for small business owners. She has engaged Vancouver business owners who have expressed their frustration with rising vandalism, assaults, and violent shop-lifting.
Prior to working at the VPD, Arezo studied Criminology and Political Science at Simon Fraser University (SFU), leading her to discover a passion for community-building. During the course of her studies, she was fortunate to have an internship in Washington DC working for the congressional committee on Homeland Security. This served as an invaluable experience as Arezo learned the ins/outs of government policy.
Arezo believes that the City of Vancouver has lost its focus and is actively ignoring the core services and issues critical to Vancouver residents. She is running for city council to fight for residents by making their voices heard. Her platform of improving safety, strengthening core services, and driving affordability in the city are amongst her top agenda items.
