MineralsEd Brings Mining Education to Life for Students at Vancouver Community Fair

The annual event, designed to spark curiosity and build understanding, introduces ‘Junior Explorers’ to the mining and metals industry through interactive learning and games – and trivia questions to test their knowledge!

Nearly 700 ‘Junior Explorers’ attended the event this year, and learned more about BC’s mining industry from exploration all the way to market, and how minerals are used in British Columbians’ everyday lives.

Taseko was pleased to take part in the event, with team members joining other industry representatives to support MineralsEd’s educational mission and connect with students throughout the day.

May is Mining Month in BC, and an opportunity to celebrate the mining sector’s role in contributing to our provincial economy and supporting local businesses and communities.

Today, we’re highlighting our Gibraltar copper mine in south-central British Columbia. Gibraltar is the second-largest copper producer in Canada, producing an average of 130 million lbs of copper and 2.5 million pounds of molybdenum per year, and employing nearly 800 men and women in high-wage jobs in BC’s Cariboo region.

For more than 20 years, Gibraltar has been a source of employment and economic growth, benefiting employees, local communities, and partners, including Indigenous communities.

And as the demand for copper increases, we’re proud to be providing an essential metal for construction, manufacturing and industrial sectors as well as electrification, digitalization and the energy transition.

It’s that time of year! Taseko is proud to launch our 2026 Mining For Miracles Pie Throw campaign – the BC mining industry’s flagship fundraiser in support of BC Children's Hospital Foundation

Taking the baton from Taseko COO Richard Tremblay this year is Taseko Vice President of Engineering, Richard Weymark. Richard has bravely volunteered to represent Team Taseko in the annual friendly pie-throw showdown against Rob Medley of Ausenco.

The annual pie throw challenge has become a great tradition across our industry and for the Taseko organization. Thanks to the incredible support of our employees, partners, and community, Taseko participants like Richard Tremblay, Terry Morris, and Bryce Hamming have helped raise more than $100,000 to date.

Visit https://fundraise.bcchf.ca/fundraisers/RichardWeymark/piethrow to donate to Richard Weymark and the Team Taseko campaign.
