Some photos from the EERI-BC’s 4th Annual Symposium focusing on “Designing for a Moving Target - Sustaining Resilience in an Era of Evolving Seismic Demands”, hosted at UBC Robson Square on October 15, 2026. The event featured many industry professionals, university professors, and researchers as speakers throughout the day.

Thank you to Thava Thavaraj from Klohn Crippen Berger, Jackson Hamersley from BASIS Engineering, Jonathan Foote from Thurber Engineering, and Professor Salman Soleimani-Dashtaki for inviting UBC Seismic as a booth holder in the exhibition room and for accommodating a brief presentation slot for us to introduce the team. We enjoyed attending lectures in the conference and meeting other engineers in the field, it was an insightful experience.

Additionally, thank you to the event organizers and sponsors for the extremely generous donation made to the team. We were very honored to accept the donation and we deeply appreciate your support for our members, it means a lot to us. The money we receive goes straight back into improving the team and creating more learning opportunities for our students.

After competing alongside 47 universities from around the world, we are proud to announce that we have placed 🏅 6TH OVERALL 🏅 in this year’s annual EERI Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition, hosted at the Oregon Convention Centre.

Notably, we placed 1st in presentation, reflecting our strong presenters who beautifully handled the judges’ questions and our well-designed slides with striking visuals. We achieved 2nd in overall communications score, showcasing our team’s meticulous efforts in our design proposal and poster deliverables as well. Furthermore, we received 5th in damper proposal for our innovative elastic-friction damper that uses 3D printed parts and dental elastics. Most importantly, our tower survived the big shake with ease! Overall, our team placed competitively in all categories and we had a very successful, well-rounded year.

We would like to thank our industry sponsors for their support, as they made this invaluable learning experience possible. We also deeply appreciate our faculty advisors for mentoring us along the way.
