September 30 marks Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Inspired by Phyllis Webstad’s story of having her new orange shirt taken away when she arrived at residential school. This day honours Survivors and remembers the children who never returned home.

Does your child hold it together at school—then cry, yell, withdraw, or have big reactions the moment they get home? 💛

This may be after-school restraint collapse: a release of the stress, sensory overwhelm, and emotional effort your child has carried throughout the school day.

For many neurodivergent and autistic children, school requires navigating transitions, social expectations, sensory input, communication demands, and changing routines. When they finally return to a place where they feel safe, everything they have been holding in may come out.

This is not your child being “difficult” or giving you a hard time. It may be their nervous system communicating: “I’ve worked hard all day, and I need support.”

Offering time to decompress, connecting without pressure, checking their body’s needs, reducing demands, and providing opportunities for movement can help make the transition home feel safer and more manageable.

Every child regulates differently. The goal is not to stop their emotions—it is to understand what those emotions may be communicating and help them find support that honours their individual needs, strengths, and pace.

Since our grand opening at KUBO Family & Learning, we’ve jumped right into a full schedule of daily summer camps! ☀️ It’s been a blast so far and we can’t believe summer is almost over!

It’s been a joy to see our students’ passion for STEM grow over this summer, especially for outdoor experiments and exploration! 🧪🪐

We also love seeing some of the friendships that have been made through a shared love for dinosaurs, robots, volcano explosions, or marvel characters. Our students have been looking forward to seeing and playing with each other everyday. We’re sad to have only 2 weeks left with everyone, but we’re looking forward to our upcoming fall groups that will continue every Saturdays and Sundays 🍁🔬
