What does it take to deliver a 30,000 sq ft headquarters that was designed, built, and completed in just one year?

Designed by M Moser Associates and built by Fusion Projects , this project for Elk Valley Resources (EVR) was completed within a tight, one-year timeline from early planning through final construction.

Kathy Cernea, Project Manager at Fusion Projects, shares how careful coordination, clear communication, and disciplined scheduling were critical to delivering a complex, two-level office with a new interconnecting staircase for EVR’s new headquarters in Downtown Vancouver.

From a design perspective, Alex Watkins, Associate Director at M Moser, walks through the inspiration behind the space, drawing on EVR’s mining heritage and connection to place. Forcrete microcement walls echo geological striations, commissioned Ktunaxa First Nation artwork grounds the workplace in local context, and a dramatic architectural stair creates a strong visual and spatial link between floors.

With high-performance AV, switchable privacy glazing, exposed ceilings, and extensive custom millwork, the result is a durable, future-ready workplace designed to support collaboration, focus, and long-term operational performance.

Elk Valley Resources’s new headquarters is a 31,000 sq ft, two-level workplace located in the heart of Downtown Vancouver. Designed by M Moser Associates as and built by Fusion Projects, the project was completed within a tight, one-year schedule from planning and design through construction.

The design reflects EVR’s mining heritage through materiality and form. Forcrete microcement walls echo geological striations, commissioned Ktunaxa First Nation artwork anchors the space in place, and a custom engineered interconnecting staircase creates a strong architectural spine between floors.

High-performance AV, switchable privacy glazing, exposed ceilings, and extensive millwork support flexibility, comfort, and long-term operational performance.

A complex, tightly scheduled build—executed with precision, efficiency, and a focus on creating a durable, future-ready workplace.

Natural stone, beautiful architectural millwork, and an open-concept were the cornerstones of this recent build for Woodbridge Homes.

Partnering with SSDG Interiors, we were tasked with creating a space that fostered collaboration and made the commute worth it, all the while ensuring every detail — from the flow of light to the finish of the stone — reflected the values of the Woodbridge brand.

U.S. tariffs have added new complexity to the Canadian construction landscape —that goes without saying — but adaptability is our greatest strength, and we’ve demonstrated that for two decades through global recessions, pandemics, and fluctuating economic uncertanties.

From the very beginning of each project, we work closely with our clients to identify materials and systems that deliver performance, value, and long-term durability. That means sourcing smart, thinking locally, and staying flexible in a shifting global market.

Our approach is proactive, not reactive. Through early planning, supplier collaboration, and transparent budgeting, we help our clients avoid surprises while upholding the standards of quality and integrity that define every Fusion build.

Born out of a desire to help others and find more meaning in life, this is is PL and Kristen’s goal.

Having already traversed over 12,000 kilometres across Europe and North America, they are set to embark on their third continental journey — South America.

This trip will take them from Bogotá, Colombia, to Ushuaia, Argentina — over 10,000 km, with an expected completion time of approximately six months.

Located in the heart of Vancouver, Fusion Projects played a pivotal role in overseeing the design and construction of the Alpha 9 laboratory. The designated space encompassed more than 13,000 square feet, and starting from a bare structure, Fusion Projects transformed it into a versatile mixed-use office area and a state-of-the-art laboratory facility.

To accomplish this, we assembled a dedicated team of consultants, including experts in structural engineering, mechanical systems, and electrical systems. This team was responsible for delivering a wide range of services, starting from the initial assessment phase and continuing throughout the construction process.

Collaboration was key throughout this intricate project. The Fusion team, consisting of project managers, site superintendents, and project coordinators, worked closely and harmoniously with the team of expert scientists from Alpha 9 Labs.

Together, we ensured that the laboratory met all the stringent requirements necessary for its operation, including handling radioactive materials and adhering to strict security and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards.

One of the project's significant challenges involved accommodating a vast array of specialized equipment. To address this, Fusion Projects, in collaboration with engineers, offered innovative and cost-effective solutions for electrical, mechanical (HVAC), and plumbing aspects of the project.

Additionally, we made essential upgrades to the base building to meet the City of Vancouver's specific requirements, such as water and gas meter installations.

We are super proud of our contribution to the success of this remarkable project, and a big thank you to everyone who brought this project together!

Tenant improvement projects pose all sorts of challenges, including this concrete pour for a designated washroom area in the 67-year-old Post building in downtown Vancouver. Site Super Daven breaks it down for us:

Challenge number one arose from the fact we were unable to core into the slab due to the existing tenant below, so we had to get creative.

Working closely with engineers, architects, and field teams, we settled on establishing a raised platform for the washrooms in order to properly run plumbing and drainage lines as needed.

Okay, problem one sorted.

Next, given the volume of concrete required, we had to figure out a way to funnel it efficiently up three floors through a 67 year old building. This required partial street closures and deconstructing one of the building’s fully custom original window in order to make way for the pour lines.

All in all, big props to everyone that came together to ensure the job was done without a hitch.

Shoutout to KERN BSG, one of our trusted trade partners, handling formwork and concrete on this tenant improvement project

Stay tuned for more updates on this massive project!
