CSE - Canadian Securities Exchange recently sat down with our CEO Salim Dhanji, Ph.D., for their Issuer Update.

Salim explains how ME Therapeutics is advancing cancer therapeutics that would re-engineer a patient’s immune cells in their body. This includes:
- our in vivo CAR program to directly recognize a patient’s cancer cells.
- our therapeutic mRNA program targeting the STING pathway to overcome a suppressive tumour environment and allow a pre-existing immune response to kick in.

“One of the things we are working on is very specific delivery of nucleic acids to the tumor microenvironment so we can specifically target immune cells and create a stronger anti-cancer immune response. On top of that, if you can reprogram immune cells to actually recognize the cancer, you can hit the cancer from both sides.”

In the latest episode of Stories in Life Sciences Podcast, ME Therapeutics CEO Dr. Salim Dhanji sits down with Christopher Wilson to discuss the promise of in vivo CAR therapy, the company’s unique path to first-in-human trials, and what it takes to raise capital for biotech in Canada.

We’ve been invited to pitch at CSE Capital Tech Connect, an exclusive event hosted by the Securities Exchange during Summit in Vancouver.

Our CEO Salim Dhanji will present alongside other innovators to highlight how ME Therapeutics’s in vivo immune reprogramming approaches represent the next wave of cancer medicine. The pitch will also cover high level insights into ME Therapeutics’s science and corporate strategy.

“Activity in the immune reprogramming market continues to accelerate, and ME Therapeutics is right at the cutting-edge,” said Dhanji. “We have deep expertise in immune system biology, strategic collaborations with world-class delivery partners, and validated assets like our CD22 nanobody-based binder. Together, these strengths position us to advance next-generation therapies and expand access to novel cancer therapies for patients.”

May is Cancer Research Month, a time to recognize the importance of cancer research.

Cancer is on the rise. Research suggests we can expect over 29.5 million new cases of cancer by 2040. In Canada alone, this year an estimated 254,100 people will be diagnosed with cancer and 87,900 will die from cancer.

We believe immuno-oncology provides a necessary evolution in cancer care, where the immune system is harnessed to target cancer cells. We’re proud to be part of the research community pushing this science forward.

We’ve released a scientific update on our in vivo CAR and therapeutic mRNA programs.

▫️ Our lead in vivo CAR candidate targeting CD19/CD22 continues to be optimized for expression and function in both T cells and myeloid cells. We are also testing lipid nanoparticle formulations engineered for effective in vivo mRNA delivery to human T cells and macrophages.

▫️ Preclinical testing is also progressing for our lead therapeutic mRNA candidate targeting the STING (Stimulator of Interferon Genes) pathway. Two modified versions have been optimized to enhance expression of STING in the tumour microenvironment and will now move forward for further testing.

Here’s a closer look at our antibody program that reprograms the immune system.

We are advancing our antibody program targeting G-CSF, a cytokine produced at elevated levels in certain tumors that drives immune suppression.

G-CSF is usually low or undetectable in healthy individuals. High G-CSF levels promote the development of myeloid-derived suppressor cells, which inhibit immune response and limit the body’s ability to fight cancer.

Our lead candidate, h1B11-12, is a humanized antibody designed to block G-CSF and help restore immune function.

The program is now progressing through cell line development toward GMP manufacturing, with early candidate lines demonstrating strong production and stability.

his month our CEO Dr. Salim Dhanji sat down with CEOCFO Magazine for an in-depth Q&A.

He discussed the beginnings of our company, co-founded by immunologists, our unique approach to reprogramming the immune system to make cancer drugs available to more patients, and our plans to move toward the clinic.

“We are unique in how we have approached building the company. We have kept things lean. We are founded by scientists who understand the immune response to cancer. We are really leveraging that to develop our pipeline and be strategic about how we can move forward and create cancer treatments for patients.”
– Salim Dhanji
