Summer Science is a one-week summer camp for Aboriginal students in grades 8-11. The program promotes interest in the health and human service field through first-hand experience at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC. Each year the program takes place in 2 one-week sessions: one for grades 10-12, and one for grades 8-9. Students stay on campus at UBC during their program week. In

2012, the Summer Science dates are as follows:
First session is for grades 10-12, Sunday, July 1 to Saturday, July 7, 2012,
Second session is for grades 8-9, Sunday, July 8 to Saturday, July 14, 2012. Students who have completed grades 8-11 and are of First Nations, Inuit, or Métis Ancestry, are encouraged to apply.

Introducing KALINA! Kalina is joining us this summer as a Program Assistant! You may have already spoken with Kalina through outreach over the phone or email!

Kalina is a fourth year student, within the Indigenous Teacher’s Education Program (NITEP). She was born in Yellowknife, North West Territories, and is of Dene, Chipewyan Indigenous ancestry and mixed European settler ancestry. Kalina is majoring within history and arts, with plans to teach in highschools. She has focused on developing her artistic practices in many fields, obtaining an honours diploma in Global makeup, being a member in a local pottery collective and teaching violin to local youth. As a future Indigenous educator, she plans to help shape the minds of future youth through Indigenous pedagogical practices.

Introducing ELLA! Ella is joining Summer Science for her second year as a Program Assistant! She is working behind the scenes planning camp along side the rest of the team, and is here to answer any questions

Ella is a proud member of the Tsimshian Nation. She grew up on the traditional, unceded territory of the Squamish Nation in Squamish BC, and is studying math at UBC. Ella is passionate about increasing Indigenous representation in STEM-related fields and supporting Indigenous youth in exploring post-secondary pathways in STEM. The Summer Science Program reflects her passion by allowing her to help Indigenous youth explore STEM post-secondary pathways in a fun and culturally safe space.

Introducing JILLIAN! Jillian is joining Summer Science as one of our Program Assistants! She is here to answer any camp related questions through our email!

Jillian was born and raised on treaty one territory in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is a proud member of the Red River Metis Nation. This is her first year working with Summer Science. Jillian is passionate about working with Indigenous youth to grow their cultural knowledge as well as her own. She is currently working towards a degree in education and is about to start her second year studying at UBC with the Indigenous Teachers Education program (NITEP). Jillian is focusing on becoming a future educator, and hopefully, role model to Indigenous youth.

Introducing GEORGIA! A warm welcome back to Georgia as your 2026 Program Manager! She has been hard at work creating a fun and enriching experience for campers while supporting her team!

This is Georgia’s third year with Summer Science. She has a passion for working with youth in community-based settings and is dedicated to providing an enriching, welcoming, and exciting space for Indigenous youth to explore health and sciences fields of study while they connect with Elders, role models, and peers through cultural activities at camp. One of her favourite memories at camp is learning how to make cedar roses with Elders and students!
