⚡Our Energy Savings Workshop with the Men Seniors Group at Rexdale Community Health Centre was a powerful reminder of why this work matters!

Among the many stories shared, one participant (a man who spent his career in the construction sector) opened up about his reality as a senior living in a housing building where many units don't meet basic heating standards. Despite repeated reports, residents have received little support or explanation. He described feeling forgotten by the systems meant to protect.

Moments like these go beyond energy tips. They're about being present, listening, and making sure people know their voices matter and that resources exist to help. Energy Mentor Ayham navigated these deeply human conversations with care and skill, while delivering a meaningful and informative session.

💚 Thank you to the Men Seniors Group and Rexdale Community Health Centre for creating space for these important conversations. And to our funders The Atmospheric Fund, Peter Gilgan Foundation, and McConnell Foundation / Fondation McConnell: thank you for making Empower Me's presence in Ontario communities possible.

💡 It's been quite a week for Empower Me Washington!
Since last weekend, our team has been out at 3 community events across the Seattle area: Mercy Housing's Resident Resource Event, the Skyway Library Resource Fair, and Byrd Barr Place's Public Health Fair.

With public health organizations, municipal and utility support services, food banks, and more all under one roof, there were familiar faces everywhere, and a real opportunity to connect with people doing incredible work across the city.

Energy Mentors Thao and Steve talked to 100+ participants, networked with community partners, did a little Zumba, and fuelled up on tacos and elote 🌮🌽

Thank you to Mercy Housing, Byrd Barr Place, and the Skyway Library for welcoming us and for the incredible community spaces you create! We're always glad to be in the room with you.

May 14 wrapped up as a big day for Empower Me Alberta, with milestones being reached in both Edmonton and Calgary at the same time 🙌

In Edmonton, it marked the final session of a 6-workshop series with the Newcomers Centre. We connected with ~100 newcomers to Canada, sharing practical energy-saving strategies in flexible in-person and online formats designed to work across different schedules and language learning levels. This partnership has been going strong since 2021, and together we've now delivered a total of 46 workshops to newcomer communities in Edmonton!

In Calgary, we concluded a 10-workshop series with The Immigrant Education Society - TIES, delivered to 656 newcomer learners across LINC 3/4 and 5/6 English classes. LINC Instructor Maysa Hanisch shared that these workshops consistently help students better understand their energy bills and feel empowered to make real changes at home.

This series also marks a significant milestone: Empower Me and TIES have now delivered exactly 99 workshops together since 2021 🎊

🤝 Both partnerships reflect the same commitment: practical, accessible energy education that helps newcomers build confidence in their homes and in a new country. Thank you to our partners at the Newcomers Centre and The Immigrant Education Society - TIES, and to our funders EPCOR Canada and City of Calgary – Your Local Government for making this work possible across Alberta!

Melissa and her daughter used to wear winter jackets inside their home because it was too cold to live in safely.

Their furnace was aging, their bills topped $700/month, and as a newcomer to Canada, Melissa didn’t know where to turn for help.

Through Kambo’s Empower Me program, a Mandarin-speaking Energy Mentor helped Melissa access a new heating system and navigate the process in her own language.

Today, her home is warm, safe, and affordable again. 💛

On May 11, Energy Mentors Tatumn and Thao spent an entire day at Seattle Center's Glimpse of China festival talking to hundreds of visitors about energy savings! 🏮✨

Putting their Mandarin skills to work, the team made conversations about energy more accessible and personal for attendees. Events like these are a reminder of how much impact a knowledgeable, welcoming presence can have in spaces where people feel at home.

Thank you to Tatumn and Thao for showing up and showing out, and to the Festal series for creating such vibrant community spaces to connect!

⚙️ Something as simple as replacing a furnace filter can make a real difference in how efficiently your home uses energy — and that's exactly what participants at our recent workshop at the New Westminster Public Library got to see up close!

Working alongside our partners at ISSofBC, our B.C. team brought hands-on, practical energy education to community members in the City of New Westminster. From understanding energy bills to tips on heating systems, participants walked away with knowledge they can act on right away in their homes 🏡

🌟 A huge thank you to ISSofBC for the warm welcome and continued partnership, and to our funders CleanBC, FortisBC, City of New Westminster, Energy Saving New West, Vancity, Houssian Foundation, and Small Change Fund for making this work possible in B.C. communities.

Following Empower Me’s participation in two community events hosted by Haven on the Queensway in February, we were glad to return on May 1st to deliver an Energy Savings Workshop. 💡

Many participants shared that while they’re eager to participate in programs to learn how to better manage energy use and household efficiency, they often face confusion, barriers, and long waits when reaching out to utility providers.

Through trusted community partnerships and one-on-one support, Empower Me helps bridge that gap. Having someone to listen, explain options clearly, and help make the next step feel a little easier. 🏡

Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared your experiences. ✨If you’d like to learn more about your home and energy use, visit empowerme.ca to register for a workshop in your region or check out the link in our bio! ⚡
