Hot Tapping & Line Stopping | Pipe Fabrication & Welding

10/23/2026

Need a new pipeline connection without shutting down your building?

Keeping critical systems operational during pipeline modifications can be a challenge.

Thats where hot tapping may provide a solution.

Hot tapping allows a new connection to be made to a suitable existing pipeline while the system remains in service, helping minimize interruptions to building operations.

At WelFab Services Ltd., we work with clients to assess project requirements and provide specialized piping solutions, with safety, precision, and proper planning at every stage.

Whether its a commercial building, industrial facility, or mechanical system, every project starts with understanding your needs.

Planning a pipeline modification? Lets talk.

24” Hot Taps on an Active 36” Water Main

The WellFab team completed two 24-inch hot taps on an active 36-inch water main inside an underground pumping station.

Using the TONISCO B40 hot tapping machine from - Hot tapping & Line stopping, our team completed the large-diameter connections while the existing main remained active and in service.

From equipment setup and alignment through the cutting operation and retrieval of the 24-inch coupons, each stage was carefully planned and executed by our field team.

Hot tapping allows new connections to be made to an operating piping system without shutting down the existing main, helping minimize service interruptions and downtime.

WellFab completed a double 4” line stop with a temporary bypass to provide the isolation required for the installation of new three-way valves.

The bypass allowed system operation to be maintained while the two line stops isolated the section of piping being modified.

This allowed the contractor to complete the valve installation without draining the system and without a full shutdown of the data centre’s critical mechanical infrastructure.

For facilities where shutdown windows are limited or simply not practical, line stopping can provide an engineered method of isolating existing piping while maintaining service to the rest of the system.

WellFab successfully executed two 24-inch hot taps on a live, operating piping system, creating new large-diameter connection points while maintaining continuous system operation.

From connection preparation and valve installation to equipment alignment, controlled cutting, coupon retrieval, and final verification, every stage was planned and executed under live operating conditions.

Throughout the cutting operation, system conditions and equipment performance were continuously monitored to maintain control and ensure precise ex*****on.

The result: two fully established 24-inch connection points without draining the system, interrupting service, or taking critical infrastructure offline.

This is where hot tapping delivers its real value: enabling system expansion, modification, and new connections while existing infrastructure remains in service.

When shutdown is not an option, ex*****on matters.
