This month, we're highlighting Jarrod Knight, whose passion for his trade is shaped by a family legacy in the industry and has helped drive success across some of Steelcon's most recognizable projects.
Since joining Steelcon, Jarrod has grown from a Crane Operator into his current role as Hoisting and Rigging Supervisor, taking on increasing responsibilities while helping support safe, efficient field operations. His commitment to teamwork, continuous improvement, and mentorship have made him a valued member of the Steelcon Erectors team.
Here's what he had to say about his journey:
What attracted you to Steelcon, and how has your role evolved?
"What attracted me to Steelcon was its growth and success in the fabrication and er****on industries. As the company established itself as a leader in the field, I saw a chance to be part of an organization constantly evolving and taking on exciting projects. I started as a Crane Operator and have progressed into my current role as Hoisting and Rigging Supervisor. I'm grateful for the trust, mentorship, and opportunities that have shaped my career."
Can you share a moment that significantly influenced your career path?
"One experience that stands out was a project in Elora, Ontario, where my father and I were each operating a crane while my brother coordinated the work on the ground, often directing both cranes. It highlighted the trust, communication, and teamwork required to do a job safely and successfully. Having family in the same industry has been one of the greatest influences on my career, motivating me to improve and strive for excellence every day."
What do you enjoy most about your current role?
"One of the most rewarding parts is seeing projects we've worked hard on become recognizable landmarks in the communities where we build. I also genuinely enjoy the people I work with, from field crews to office staff, there's a strong sense of teamwork and support that makes Steelcon a rewarding place to work."
Can you share an achievement you're especially proud of?
"I'm particularly proud of helping expand our crane and equipment fleet over the past year, reducing our reliance on rentals and strengthening our ability to support projects with our own equipment. I'm also proud of the work we've completed at BMO Field and the renovations at Scotiabank Arena, seeing the impact of our team's efforts has been incredibly rewarding."
