I recently worked on a 100+ year old house with a floor that had a significant dip of over 1.5” in a span of 14 feet. The 2x8 floor joists were sagging badly, causing a 2-foot long crack in the lower unit. To address this, I removed the original subfloor and flooring, sistered new 14-foot 2x8 joists with glue and structural GRK screws, and added every 16”, glued 3/4” tongue and groomers plywood to the joists. This solution ensured the floor could support the added weight of deadload and liveload. The floor is now perfectly level and sturdy. The owner is more than pleased, and I’m happy with the result after 6 days of hard work. It was a challenging but rewarding project.
