UVic Satellite Design

UVic Satellite Design 1st place, Canadian Satellite Design Challenge(CSDC) 2014. We are always looking for new members and sponsors.

UVic ECOSat is a research group who has for the past 3 years competed in the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge (CSDC) hosted by Geocentrix Technologies. The CSDC involves twelve universities across Canada in an effort to develop the experience and infrastructure for small satellite design. The challenge helps universities structure new research and expertise through the development of a 3U CubeS

at (10x10x30 cm and under 4kg). The ECOSat group consists of dedicated graduate and undergraduate students passionate about space technology. Through the hard work and development of the groups' fully in house designed power, command and data handling, mechanical, and payload systems the initial satellite placed third in 2012. With the experience and further development following the success in the first round the group achieved first place in 2014 securing a launch into low earth orbit. Please feel free to contact us with any questions about the project or getting involved in this unique competition.

If you’ve heard sobbing, cheering, or the gentle hum of an electric motor from the roof of ELW over the past year, it was probably our Ground Segment Communications team (wizards?) hard at work building and testing our ground station!

Standing at 5 meters tall, this top of the line ground station (designed, built, and operated by undergraduate students) has established contact with satellites as far away as 800km from earth! πŸŒŽπŸ›°πŸ§™β€β™‚οΈ

UVic Satellite Design walked away from the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge with a 2nd place finish for Homathko!

Our thanks go out to:
Rainhouse Canada for the incredible work on the structure
The Canadian Space Agency staff who hosted us for the week of testing
Our hardworking members for making the satellite a reality
And of course, Larry, for making the entire event possible.

We're excited for what's next in store for the club, and have already begun development on our next Satellite, ORCAASat
