The Assistant/Trainee will work alongside a senior inspector performing weld inspection and non-destructive testing at our client locations. On-the-job training and mentoring will be provided. Penetrant Inspection is a great method to test for surface breaking defects, like the crack shown in this photo!

Penetrant Inspection is commonly performed on metals which cannot be magnetized, such as aluminum and some grades of stainless steel.

Our client requested Penetrant Inspection on their rotating equipment components to eliminate risk of residual magnetism left over from Magnetic Particle Testing.

Our client is quite happy this pin did not go back into service!

I once read “If your documentation won’t hold up in court, you need to do better”.

At KayElle Industrial, we understand our client’s pain points with inspection reports; legibility, accuracy, completeness, inconsistency, timeliness, the list goes on.

A few simple and effective ways that we add value for our clients when it comes to reporting:

Standardized, typed reports. Text recognition allows a quick search through reports containing: item numbers, dates, inspector, equipment S/N, project, etc.

Photos. I am a big believer in taking photos of everything. Specifically, time stamped photos! We include a photo page showing an overview of the inspection scope, close-up views representative of workmanship and of course detailed photos of any areas of concern. Additional photos are usually available upon request. Snapping a few photos takes seconds and they are free!

Timely report submission via email serves as back-up in the event a hard copy is lost or destroyed. We ensure final reports are reviewed by our Inspection Supervisor and submitted to our client within 48 hours of completing the inspection.

When a weld pool solidifies the crystals begin forming at the solid/liquid interface (edges of the weld pool) and grow inward to the center of the weld pool.

Increasing the travel speed of the weld results in the solidifying crystals converging along the centreline of the weld.

Impurities in the weld pool have a lower melting temperature than the alloy itself. These impurities will solidify later than most of the alloy, therefore will also converge along the centreline.

Weld terminations (craters) are susceptible to solidification cracks, especially if not correctly filled or profiled into existing weld bead.
