Waterloo Formula Electric

Waterloo Electric is a student-run team based out of the University of Waterloo dedicated to designing, constructing and competing electric vehicles.

Waterloo Formula Electric is a team of highly motivated and passionate students from the University of Waterloo located in Ontario, Canada. We compete in the Formula SAE electric race car competition where we compete against universities from around the world. Each season, the team is tasked with developing a new vehicle from the ground up. This multidisciplinary project is no small task, but we l

ove what we do and are committed to learning and developing as future professionals. We come from many faculties within engineering as well as business, and strive for excellence every day.

Looking to work on your technical or business skills before the next co-op hunt?

Waterloo Formula Electric is currently looking for new members!

Students from all programs, all faculties, with any level of experience are welcome to join us. You can get involved with any of our sub-teams:

Mechanical: They simulate, test, design and manufacture frame, suspension, steering, brakes, driver controls to ensure that the optimal design and performance targets are met.

Electrical: Designs all of our electrical systems. All of our PCBs are developed in-house to form a complex distributed system of controllers.

Tractive: Designs the high voltage pack that powers the car, and develops the systems needed to convert the potential energy from the battery into the kinetic energy of the vehicle.

Firmware: Develops safety-critical software and tests it rigorously to ensure safety while driving.

Operations: Handles project management, sponsorship, marketing, and all that fun stuff that keeps us running.

Hello UW!

We hope you had a good summer and are ready to make the best out of your Fall term. To all the first years: welcome to university!

Whether you are an incoming student looking for involvement opportunities, or an upper year who would like to get more involved in the Engineering community, we are happy to announce that Waterloo Formula Electric is currently looking for new members!

Students from all programs, all faculties, with any level of experience are welcome to apply. You can get involved with our Mechanical, Electrical, Tractive, Firmware or Operations teams.

Yes, you read that correctly: we are hoping to expand our Operations team! You can help us with project management, finances and budgeting, marketing and advertisement, recruitment, sponsorship, travel plans, and all that fun stuff that keeps us running.
