How long does it actually take to build a custom home?

Longer than most people think, because the build doesn’t start when construction begins.

There are months (sometimes over a year) of planning that happens first: site evaluation, budget alignment, design, selections, and pre-construction work, all before anything happens on site.

Timelines can vary depending on the level of design complexity and how quickly decisions are made, but proper planning upfront is what keeps everything moving.

From firsts conversation to final completion, you’re typically looking at 18–30+ months.
