Part 1
For Winnipeg’s Olympic Homes, some of the most important design insights for cottages and homes come from an unexpected place: the back of the house.
“One of our most popular ready-to-move (RTM) home models has been recently redesigned based on feedback,” says Derek Fyfe, general manager of Olympic Homes. “People noted that when the building is placed on a waterfront property, the back becomes the front — and it didn’t have the curb appeal they wanted.”
That kind of real-world feedback is exactly what drives the Winnipeg-based builder’s approach. Rather than chasing trends, Olympic Homes focuses on listening, adapting, and continually refining its designs based on how homeowners actually live.
As 2026 unfolds, that philosophy is shaping a new lineup of show homes, updated features, and a continued focus on the company’s RTMs.
“We’re always looking at how we can improve what we offer,” Fyfe says. “A big part of that comes from customer feedback — what worked, what didn’t, and how people are actually living in their homes.”
Fresh Designs, Built on Real Feedback
This spring, Olympic Homes unveiled four brand-new RTM show homes, along with updated versions of two existing models — including the redesigned exterior of the Kingswood inspired by waterfront placement.
The changes go beyond aesthetics. By rethinking how homes are experienced on different types of lots, the company is ensuring its designs are both functional and visually appealing from every angle.
“We’ve added new design elements to make it much more visually appealing,” says Jeannie Willms, housing consultant for Olympic. “That’s the kind of refinement we’re always working on.”
As homeowner preferences evolve, Olympic Homes is also updating the features that define everyday living.
Lighting is one example of how those shifts are taking shape.
“Wall sconces are dated,” Fyfe says. “We’ve moved to including pot lights in the living room as standard. It’s a cleaner, more modern look, and it’s what people want now.”
