Your AC not keeping up? Repair or replace — decide by numbers.

1. Efficiency (SEER)
Older units (SEER 9–10) consume significantly more power. Upgrading to SEER 14–16 reduces operating cost and often offsets replacement over time.

2. Age
~15 years is end-of-life territory. Performance drops, failures increase, parts become harder to source. R-22 systems are especially costly to maintain.

3. Features
Modern systems add humidity control, zoning, and smart thermostats. Better comfort, better control, lower waste.

4. The 5,000 Rule
Age × repair cost.
If the result > 5,000 → replace.
If < 5,000 → repair is usually justified.

Fair Service Heating & Air Conditioning Ltd. handles both — targeted repairs or full system upgrades with efficient equipment and fast parts access.

Heat pumps are quickly becoming a go-to solution for Canadian homes — and for good reason.

What is a heat pump?
A heat pump is an HVAC system that both heats and cools your home by transferring heat rather than generating it. It runs on electricity and can replace your air conditioner, while working alongside a furnace in extreme cold.

Types of systems:
• Air-source – most common, uses outside air
• Ductless (mini-splits) – ideal for zoning and targeted comfort
• Ducted (regular system) - best for existing AC retrofit

Why homeowners are switching:
• Lower monthly energy bills
• Higher efficiency vs. traditional systems
• Heating + cooling in one unit
• No fossil fuel combustion
• Better control with zoned systems (mini-splits)

Heat pumps don’t create heat — they move it. That’s why they can deliver more heating or cooling output per unit of electricity used.

If you’re looking to reduce energy costs and upgrade your home’s comfort, a heat pump is worth considering.
