🌼 Today is an exciting day! Staff and volunteers started uncovering plants for our Native Plant Sale June 6th at Acadia University. Visit our website to see a list of some of the plants available this year.

🌱 All plants grown by our volunteers have overwintered outside for at least one season to ensure they are hardy and ready to follow you home.

The word of the day is "julaceous" which is a way of saying a stem or branch looks like a worm or catkin (ament). The spoon-leaved moss (Bryoandersonia illecebra) illustrates this nicely. Its stems are smooth and cylindric thanks to its tightly overlapping leaves.

Did you know that one of Canada’s earliest botanists exchanged hundreds of letters with scientists around the world?

Newly digitized correspondence from John Macoun, the first botanist at the Canadian Museum of Nature, offers a window into how botanists collaborated in the late 1800s—sharing specimens, debating plant identifications and exploring Canada’s rich biodiversity. Written by museum volunteer Sandrine Prasil, this blog reveals how Macoun and his colleagues built the foundations of Canadian botany.
