Here is a better picture of the fuel control on the SGV-770D4 Ranger. The system could probably be best described as an early form of mechanical fuel injection with a single injector per cylinder bank. This may have been done to improve fuel distribution and may also have helped improve the cooling issues. The C model has a traditional style carb that relies on the supercharger for distribution of the air/fuel mixture. To the right you can see a screen which is one of two induction air inlets into the supercharger. Instead of having a traditional valve like in a Carb or fuel servo, this system has a separate valve that controls the air entering the supercharger.

This is a very rare experimental SGV-770D4 Ranger. The engine was originally being tested for use as a high altitude power plant for the Bell XP-77 before the program was canceled. The engine features many design improvements over the SGV-770C-B1, and also features a 2-stage supercharger. Unlike other variants this particular model never made it to production. I believe there is only one other D4 that was ever made. It may also be the last military variant before the D5 wich was developed for commercial use.

For those interested in building any type of experimental aircraft in Canada this guide is excellent. Weather your only considering or ready to build, the "EAA Canadian Council Info-To-Go Builders' Handbook Amateur-Built Aircraft" is excellent at putting all the information required for such an undertaking in one place. My only word of caution is that because it is a hard copy, and unregulated it is not subject to revision so it is always smart to consult the CARs online and MD-RA to insure accuracy, and insure the latest policies and procedures are being followed. The trade-off though is the guide is FREE!

Finished off the last of the work on the tug transmission today. Fired up the tug went for a little drive around the parking lot, cycled through all the gears, everything is working perfectly. I'm not sure if I ever mentioned but the problem that we were experiencing was the transmission would get stuck in a gear and would not release without removing the shifter lever from the housing. This problem was caused by the broken shifter lever retainer and the worn and loose pins. Not an issue any longer.

Shifter lever assembly ready for installation. I should note that the paint used (green) is an epoxy primer, and not from a spray can. This coating will eventually wear off in area's of metal to metal contact but it will not flake off or chip. Do not do this with off the shelf paint from a hardware store.
