Safe Fuel Storage. Reliable Drilling Operations.

Diesel keeps drilling rigs, generators, pumps and support vehicles operating, but poor fuel storage and uncontrolled refuelling can expose people, equipment and the environment to unnecessary risk. Safe fuel management begins with the correct storage and dispensing infrastructure, supported by disciplined procedures and clear accountability.

Key fuel-storage and refuelling considerations include:

Position tanks on stable, level ground away from active work areas
Use suitable bunding or self-bunded tanks to contain leaks and spills
Establish a controlled refuelling area with restricted access
Inspect tanks, hoses, pumps, nozzles and connections regularly
Keep spill kits and fire extinguishers readily available
Switch off equipment before refuelling, where operational procedures require it
Prevent smoking, open flames and other ignition sources near fuel
Record fuel receipts, dispensing and stock movements
Train personnel in spill response and emergency procedures
Report and manage leaks or spills immediately

JDE DRC SARL and DMT Kai Batla Announce Strategic Partnership to Deliver Integrated Mining Consulting and Ex*****on Services in the Democratic Republic of Congo

JDE DRC SARL (“JDE”), and Kai Batla (Pty) Ltd (“DMT KB”), a Johannesburg-based minerals advisory and consulting company and member of the , have signed a Collaboration Agreement. The two companies will work together on mining and technical projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The partnership brings together ’s local contracting, drilling, field ex*****on and construction capability in the with DMT KB’s specialist technical expertise. Clients in the sector will be able to engage one combined team covering work from discovery through to development.

The two companies will work together across:

Feasibility and pre-feasibility studies
Mineral Resource and Mineral Reserve estimation and technical reporting
Mine planning and design
Geotechnical engineering and hydrology
Mineral processing
Mine finance and financial modelling
Drilling, field ex*****on and project coordination

Under the agreement, JDE will act as the local DRC contracting and ex*****on partner, and DMT KB will provide specialist consulting, engineering and technical reporting. DMT KB can also draw on expertise from the wider DMT Group and TÜV NORD Group network where a project needs it.

Daily Safety Discipline Protects People and Productivity

Safety on a drilling site is not a once-off activity. It is a daily discipline built into every shift, every task and every decision.

Toolbox talks give teams an opportunity to review planned activities, identify changing site conditions and discuss the risks before work begins.

Pre-start inspections help confirm that drill rigs, vehicles, pumps, generators, hoses, tools and safety equipment are fit for use. Identifying a defect before operations start can prevent equipment damage, downtime or injury.

Incident and near-miss reporting allows hazards to be investigated and corrective actions implemented before a more serious event occurs. Reporting should be encouraged as a tool for improvement—not blame.
