Temperatures in the Arctic are at present above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, comparable to the warm weather in Florida during summer.

The typically cold region of Siberia was recently surprised by an unprecedented heatwave, as the temperatures there exceeded 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius).

According to Scientific American, Selagoncy weather station near the Arctic Circle saw a shocking temperature of 93.0 degrees, while Olenyok, another weather station in the region, registered 90.9 degrees Fahrenheit. The numbers were reported by the weather service Ogimet and analyzed by the climate expert Maximiliano Herrera, who notes that such temperatures are "more typical of summer in Orlando, Florida, than the polar region."

The anomalous weather phenomenon is part of a bigger pattern, as the Arctic region is currently warming at "four times the rate of the rest of the world."

Scientists note that such dynamics can lead to the rapid melting of glaciers and permafrost, as well as to the release of greenhouse gases (such as methane) locked in ice, provoking disruptive weather patterns around the globe. Thus, the warming influence of the Arctic on the world this time will be felt much stronger and will affect the regions far beyond the polar circle.

Florida has become the first U.S. state to ban geoengineering and weather modification practices after Governor Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 56 (SB 56) into law.

The bill was enacted on July 1 st , 2025, and makes it unlawful to knowingly release or discharge any chemical or other substance into the atmosphere to alter temperature, weather patterns, climate, or sunlight intensity. The violations of the new law are considered a third-degree felony in the state.

SB 56 also requires that if an aircraft capable of performing geoengineering or weather modification is present, takes off, lands, or undergoes maintenance, inspection, servicing, or refueling at any publicly owned airport in the state, the owner or operator of that airport shall file a monthly report with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

Proponents of the law claim that it will prevent future atmospheric experiments and promote transparency, while opponents argue that such measures do not exist on a significant scale in Florida. Before Senate Bill 56 was passed, Florida had allowed limited weather modification practices under a state licensing system. SB 56 officially repealed those allowances, banning all weather modification activities across the state.

A discarded upper stage of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is set to make another trip, but not one that the company would like - soon enough it'll come crashing down on our satellite.

This rocket stage sent two of the first private lunar landers to the moon back on January 15, 2025, but now it is set to come down on August 5, 2025. The landing will be anywhere from the moon's equator to its north pole, going as fast as 8,700 km/h (5,400 mph) - near Einstein Crater on the moon's sunlit western edge - but don't panic! The collision will pose no risk to our planet.

Scientists figure that the impact of the rocket on the moon will release as much as three tons of TNT. This is enough energy to create a crater 27 meters (90 feet) long and five meters (16 feet) deep. An observer on Earth may see the flash from the collision, but astronomers say that a billowing of dust and rubble that shoots from the crater for several minutes after impact would be the most we could potentially see, due to the moon's gravity and lack of atmosphere.

The 12 meter (40 feet) long rocket stage that weighs about 4,500 kilograms (10,000 pounds) is what sent the Firefly Aerospace Blue Ghost and iSpace's Hakuto-R Mission 2 landers to the lunar surface. The Blue Ghost landed successfully, but the Japanese lander was destroyed during an attempt to land as well.

NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and South Korea's Danuri lunar orbiter are due to capture pictures of before and after the impact, giving us valuable insight on the collision that the company is trying to study.

Other than the potential scientific data of the impact on the moon, astronomers say that this serves as a stark lesson of the crowded conditions in space around the Earth and our neighbor, the moon. With more and more robotic spacecrafts and astronauts on their way to the lunar surface, better tracking of space craft and debries with the disposal of spent stages being a problem for our experts here on Earth.

He was constantly losing 5-10 sheep per month. The wolves were attacking them at night, and he only found out about it in the morning, when the money was already stolen.

At ~$150-$200 per sheep, that's over $3000 per year going into the woods.

He had no programming experience and asked Claude to write the entire program for him, which tracks every single sheep and alerts him whenever any of them is missing.

A simple camera, which counts sheep every 5 seconds and alerts him via telegram if the number decreases. All of the code was written by Claude, he only told him what he needs to write the code for.

Not a $5,000 thermal camera. Not a $200 per month subscription to some security service. Just a $60 we**am and a local python script, which does not require any payments.

All of this was made in the span of one weekend, with Claude writing all of the code.

After 2 months of using this script, there were 0 sheep stolen. $3,000+ a year now stays in his pocket instead of feeding wolves for a one-time $60

Word about this got to other farmers, and they decided to hire him to make them something similar.

He has already managed to sell the program to several farmers for a price of $5000, using Claude to write it

Electric aircraft have captured imaginations, but the challenge of powering long-distance travel has been intractable - until now. H2Fly's CEO Ralph Müller says that batteries are best suited to short-range aircraft, since heavier batteries are needed for longer hauls, which compromises range and payload.

According to Ralph Müller, H2Fly's CEO, battery powered aircraft are 'limited to a range of 100 to 120 miles' beyond which hydrogen fuel cells are needed since they carry more energy per unit weight than batteries.

Founded in Germany in 2015, and acquired by Joby Aviation, H2Fly does not make planes. Instead, the company is developing hydrogen fuel cells; liquid hydrogen storage tanks; and complete electric propulsion systems, and supporting suppliers and manufacturers as the industry evolves, and airports ready themselves for the coming revolution in air travel.

Hydrogen fuel cells pose their own set of problems. Liquid hydrogen needs to be kept at very low temperatures and its storage tanks are far bigger than anything used for storing jet fuel. Hydrogen planes of the future will require an entirely new design, says Müller. They will utilise more efficient wings and flight configurations than anything available today. The company anticipates that regional aircraft designed to carry 9 passengers will be among the first to benefit from hydrogen fuel cells, followed by cargo drones, and electrically powered vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOLs) and eventually larger passenger aircraft.

H2Fly is also working on Goliath, a project that will demonstrate liquid hydrogen fuelling at three European airports, and BALIS 2, a German project that will see the creation of a 300 to 350 kW fuel cell system for future aircraft.

Within 10 years, Müller predicts, battery powered commercial aircraft will dominate the short-haul market. Beyond that, within two decades, hydrogen fuel cell aircraft will follow; and ultimately, by about 2045, large passenger aircraft with over a hundred seats powered by liquid hydrogen fuel cells will have been built, and airports will have begun to produce and liquefy hydrogen using renewable energy when electricity is plentiful.

Scientists are growing concerned about the development of artificial intelligence that can produce fake citations to support research findings, calling for more careful authorship in order to maintain the integrity of the research work.

According to a study published on the official arXiv blog, there is an estimated figure of 146,900 fake or non-existent citations that appeared in 2025 when analyzing 111 million references from 2.5 million research papers. Researchers note that the surge happened after the introduction of artificial intelligence tools that could generate realistic text and references.

They highlight that the problem is not that AI finds new discoveries, but it creates plausible text with citations that must be checked by humans to confirm their accuracy.

Many scientific publications are first shared on preprint servers, meaning that incorrect citations can already be there when articles are peer-reviewed.
