For this month's addition of INFORS HT's🧬ADVANCING SCIENCE SERIES🧫, researchers from the Advanced Biofuels and Bioproducts Unit at CIEMAT (Madrid, Spain) explored an eco-friendly method for converting vine shoot biomass into fermentable sugars using deep eutectic solvents (DESs). With saccharification carried out in the INFORS HT Minitron incubator shaker, the process achieved up to 99.9% xylan conversion, offering a greener pathway to biomass utilization and sugar recovery.

For this month's addition of INFORS HT's🧬ADVANCING SCIENCE SERIES🧫, researchers from the Technical University of Munich and the University of Namibia studied a newly discovered thermophilic cyanobacterium isolated from a hot spring near Okahandja, Namibia. Using the INFORS HT Labfors bench-top bioreactor, they cultivated the strain at 40–55°C and found that it adjusts its protein expression with temperature. These insights into microbial heat adaptation could support new advances in biotechnology for high-temperature processes.

For this month's addition of INFORS HT's🧬ADVANCING SCIENCE SERIES🧫, researchers from the University of Delaware's Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering developed a site-specific integration (SSI) system to improve monoclonal antibody (mAb) production in CHO cells.

Using the INFORS HT Multitron incubator shaker, they cultivated cell lines under controlled conditions to test a recombinase-mediated cassette exchange (RMCE) system that enables higher-throughput transgene selection. Their optimized approach led to a 7- to 11-fold increase in mAb productivity, offering a faster and more stable platform for biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

Using an immersive VR application, students learn how to set up our bioreactor INFORS HT Minifors 2 safely and systematically before moving to hands-on lab work 🔬.

„The project was a great opportunity to combine our field of study with another one that was entirely new to us. In the process we got fascinating insights into the world of bioprocess engineering and managed to create a product that seemed to resonate with the audience during the project fair.”
