Aww look at us acting all professional! 🤗

We had the privilege of presenting our work in three different local high schools! 🥳

We spoke about iGEM, Synthetic Biology and our own project, but the main goal was to simply spark the students' interest in science! 👩‍🔬🧑‍🔬

Aaaand we're back with a bio update!!
Just look at how pretty biology can be 😍

Here is what's going on:
We transformed yeast cells with the protein CUP1 fused to a transmembrane protein.
We then checked the results by immunostaining. What you can see here is that our transformants express the protein of interest on their surface as we wanted (in green).
The blue dots are the nucleus stained with DAPI.

Here's our very first water circuit prototype (with our trusty 3-D printer in the background😍) *Yaaaaaay*

However, nothing works as planned... *ohhhhhhh*

Jokes aside, its lots of fun to be working on different engineering skills and that's part of what makes iGEM so enjoyable for us! Hopefully the next one is functional! 🤞

High school summer camp in the lab!

This was our third and final vineyard visit before starting in the lab! 👩‍🔬🧑‍🔬

We learnt a lot and received some reassuring news about our possible implementation methods. The economics of filtering copper in the real world might work out in the end!
Hopefully we can soon find a realistic solution! 🤓

Update on the team: We are all studying hard for exams and will resume iGEM activities full time soon.
