As another heating season approaches, there is a simple question worth asking: does the heating strategy still reflect how each room and zone is actually used?
Fixed schedules or a single central setting may not account for changing occupancy, operating hours or the different heating requirements within a building.
Individual room temperature control, connected multi-zone solutions and system monitoring can help align heating operation with building use. But controls do not operate in isolation.
At Climate Control, a sector of IMI, our view is that effective room and zone control involved considering both the controls and the wider hydronic system. Hydronic balancing, appropriate commissioning and regular review all have a role in supporting the delivery of heat where and when it is needed.
Before winter, building owners, operators and facility teams have an opportunity to review whether room and zone controls, schedules and system operation still reflect how their building is being used.
Our latest article explores where to begin - without treating reduced comfort as the route to lower energy use.
