📊 LME Aluminum Prices – March 2025 Overview

The LME aluminum price remains stable this month, though market uncertainty persists given the evolving geopolitical landscape.
A key factor influencing the market is the growing divergence between U.S. and European metal premiums:

🔹 U.S. Metal Premiums Soaring
Following the reintroduction of 25% tariffs on aluminum imports (effective March 12, 2025), the U.S. metal premium has risen significantly, reaching record levels. The Midwest premium now exceeds $900/T, marking a nearly 60% increase since the beginning of the year. Analysts anticipate further increases as the market adjusts to the new trade barriers.

🔹 European Metal Premiums Declining
In contrast, European metal premiums have dropped by 35% this year. The redirection of aluminum initially intended for the U.S. has contributed to increased supply in European markets, exerting downward pressure on premiums.

This shift underscores the profound impact of trade policies on global aluminum markets. While U.S. consumers face rising costs, European buyers may benefit from lower premiums in the short term.
