GeoCoW: Geometry of Complex Webs will take place from 1–6 November 2026 at the SwissMAP Research Station 🏔️ in Les Diablerets (VD).

⏳ Registration deadline: July 31, 2026. Places are limited.

Complex networks naturally arise in contexts as diverse as data science, ecology, engineering, and sociology. They concern a significant portion of the scientific community and society, especially when modeling various aspects of reality. From a mathematical standpoint, complex networks intersect graph theory, topology, and geometry. In recent decades, innovative techniques from these mathematical fields have emerged to tackle questions in applied contexts.

Despite this progress, contributions from mathematical experts remain scarce, and knowledge transfer between disciplines is rare. GeoCoW aims to deconstruct these barriers. Over a week at the SwissMAP Research Station, the workshop will bring together mathematicians with expertise in network sciences (graph theory, geometry, topology) and scientists from diverse fields whose research involves networks.

The heart of GeoCoW lies in the working groups. Throughout the week, participants will engage in intensive collaborative projects proposed by established scientists. These working groups are designed to foster interdisciplinary dialogue, encourage knowledge sharing, and stimulate innovative solutions to real-world problems.

Plenary talks will showcase how complex networks are utilized in various research fields (e.g., physics, biology, computer science, sociology, epidemiology) and present research questions for participants to address. Additionally, a one-day minicourse for young scientists will be offered, ensuring the next generation is equipped with the knowledge and skills to continue this vital interdisciplinary work.

👉 Organized by Robin Delabays (HES-SO), Matthieu Jacquemet (HES-SO & UNIFR), Christian Mazza (UNIFR), and Elise Raphael (UNIGE)
