As a leading manufacturer in the indoor climate sector, we recognize our unique role in reducing environmental impacts while continuing to drive growth.

We take a life-cycle approach to our products, striving to minimize environmental impact through innovative, low-emission solutions, longer product service life, and repairable designs. Wherever possible, we integrate recycled components and ensure materials can re-enter the circular economy at the end of their service life.

Our commitment is tangible:
Lahr, Germany: Since 2022, our facility runs entirely on green hydropower, cutting its CO2 footprint by over 2,000 tonnes annually - that's the equivalent emissions of 1,429 mid-size cars.

Maidstone, UK: Our newest manufacturing facility is designed for maximum energy efficiency and sustainability, reusing cooling water to heat or cool machines and heat recovery to warm the building. Every system is designed to minimize strain on local grids while supporting circular resource use.

These initiatives demonstrate how industry can drive meaningful climate action - not just by reducing emissions, but by rethinking processes, energy use and material flows from the ground up.

As we spend up to 90% of our time indoors, the quality of the air we breathe has a profound effect on cognitive performance, long-term health and overall wellbeing. Yet indoor air quality (IAQ) is still one of the most underestimated factors in building design and operation.

At Zehnder Group, we advocate for a shift in this mindset: IAQ should be treated with the same importance as clean water or safe food.

Industry + Academia: is collaboration the missing link in better indoor air quality?

Yesterday, Zehnder Group's Knowledge Consultant, Bart Cremers, spoke to Simon Jones on the Air Quality Matters podcast, a global channel that talks to leaders across the world to raise critical awareness of the importance of ventilation and indoor air quality - from housing to the workplace, education and healthcare.

They undertook an in-depth conversation about one of the biggest challenges in our sector: How can industry and academia work together more effectively to advance indoor air quality?

Bart sits at a rare intersection; bridging fundamental research, applied physics, renewable energy, data analysis and real-world product development. Held every year on 8th November, World Ventil8 Day raises awareness of the vital role ventilation plays in creating healthy and comfortable indoor spaces.

The year’s theme, “Collaborate to Ventilate”, highlights the power of working together across the industry to raise standards, share knowledge, and ultimately, create healthier indoor environments.

The Global Pledge for Healthy Indoor Air, launched at the United Nations last month and marks an important milestone: indoor air is now recognised globally as a fundamental human right.

At the event, Jose Luis Castro, Director General and Special Envoy for chronic respiratory diseases at the World Health Organisation said: “The quality of the air that we breath should never determine the length of our lives. For too long, air quality has been the invisible crisis of our time... to protect every breath means to protect life.”

For Zehnder Group, this matters. People spend up to 90% of their lives indoors, and awareness is finally rising about the impact of air quality on our health and wellbeing.
